Stage bottle left at Cove 2
Well, crap. It was bound to happen sometime. I left a rigged stage bottle and regulator on the beach at Cove 2. Please let me know if you've found one nearby and I'll provide identifying details.

Re: building a DPV
A better bet would be to buy a motor/tailcone/seal assembly from Silent Submersion. Not cheap, but you've have brand new guts, an upgraded brush board with welded contacts instead of soldered, and a fast wind. The standard Oceanic prop assembly and shroud would work with the SS motor. A used Gavin w...

If you want to do it yourself, Green River Community College has great facilities and a night class.

Re: Chosing Deco gas (50, or 80+)
CNS clock overages is not an issue with back gas breaks. Sorry Koos, I can't let this one go. Back gas breaks address pulmonary toxicity, not CNS. The half-time stated by NOAA for CNS tox is 90 minutes (admittedly this number is highly suspect), so a 6 minute back gas break isn't going to change th...

Ditto. I don't use an 80 until the 190' bottle.BDub wrote:I use a 40cuft for 50%. For O2 I typically use a 30, but I have a couple of 40s for O2 as well.fnerg wrote:How often do you guys use 40 cu ft deco bottles if ever?

Re: Chosing Deco gas (50, or 80+)
Jeff, I think this is a more complicated topic than it seems. The answer to "what is the best deco gas" is "it depends on the dive". As a general rule, I consider a dive with less than 30 minutes of deco a single bottle dive, and a dive with more than 30 minutes of deco as a two ...

Re: Could someone explain BC Wings to me?
I really like my BP/W setup. Not only is it great in the water, but it rinses my gear for me after the dive, buys the first round of drinks at the bar, and finds me a hot date. My BC never did that.

Re: What training do we need next
Having seen you and your wife dive in Bob's AOW class, you both dive at a high level for the amout of experience you have. I would recommend holding off on additional classes at the moment and just diving for a while. Get a copy of Oxyhacker's book and start blending up your own nitrox, as you'll ge...

Big +1 for Scott. For me, understanding the "why" in gear configuration, skills, and dive planning is just as important (if not more so) as learning the "how". Scott is fabulous in that regard.

Lake Crescent on Saturday at Sledgehammer Wall.....Really good vis all the way down to 325 ffw (at least 80'). Water temp is 60 degrees above 90 feet and 45 degrees below. It's a great time to do tech 2 dives!

Re: Bottom Timer
There is a way, though I'm not sure what it is. My Uwatec BT (same manufacturer as OMS) switched from Imperial to metric after a random input on the pins in my gear bin. I haven't figured out how to switch it back, but I'm sure there's a way.

Re: Newbie questions about gear
Personally, I love the negative Faber HP100s. They are -7 lbs empty. With a steel plate and a TLS350, I only wore 12lbs of weight on my belt, vs 23 for an AL80. Pretty sweet setup IMO. Wish I still had them.

That's why we do it from Tramp Harbor, but it's 30 minutes out and 35 minutes back, so that's 65 minutes of runtime and you haven't scootered the site yet. We don't mess around on this dive...I bring my 40 Ah Gavin, and my buddy Tim brings two 33 Ah Gavins. You need to have spare burntime to do a lo...

Re: Many shipwrecks in the columbia river
I've been over the Columbia bar quite a few times. Diving there would be, uh, challenging at best. I can't see how you'd have much visibility at any time given the flow volume (the freshwater plume can extend out 100 miles in the spring). And, this happens there... shipwrecks.jpg I would expect some...
