Re: LOST SOLA600 at Waterman's wall
Hello, It has been a while last time I was here. It is unbelievable, but I have got my light back! It has been a year and a month. It was found last week at the same site, around 41 feet deep under a crab pot. I don't directly know the diver who found it, but he was diving with a person who had dove...

Slim sculpin at Redondo
It is a week delay to post this, but I dove Redondo last Thursday ( May 9th) and saw a slim sculpin. This is my first time seeing this fish. I am very excited and want to share.
It was close to carousel boat about 80 feet deep at low tide. I took one pic, and the fish ran away.

I think it is slender cockscomb. Bands under jaw is one of ID key for slender. Happy to see this shy fish. Great shot!

Scuba pro sub vu mask found at Redondo
Sorry for the delay of posting this, but a sub vu mask was found at Redondo last Friday, April 26. One of students who came to the beach for their field trip on the low tide day found it. The mask is kept in the MaST Center now. You can stop by to pick up on Sat 10-2 or contact me so that we can arr...

Please help ID orange siphon bivalve
I took this photo at Watermans wall at 37 ft deep yesterday. (Thank you Captain Jack to take me there for searching my lost light.) The size of siphon is about 1.5 inch. I wonder if it is rock entodesma, aka Northwest ugly clam. I usually don't see this type of siphon around Redondo or Three Tree Po...

Re: Tracking Giant Pacific Octopuses in Alaska
This article is so cool!! Thank you for posting it. In addition to the expansion of hunting range, I also like the fact they stay hiding 94% of the day. That means if you see an octopus open, you are very lucky.

Re: Brown Dorid (Acanthodoris brunnea)?
I see. The Eastern Pacific Nudibranchs says "The branchial plume is quit characteristic, composed of 16-32 pinnate gill plumes and usually forms two semicircles united anteriorly to enclose several tubercles." This is what it means. I've never seen brown color variety like this. Thanks, Du...

Brown Dorid (Acanthodoris brunnea)?
Rhoda spotted this nudibranch at Three Tree Point yesterday. It was about 55' deep. It look like a barnacle eating nudibranch, but seems slightly different to me... Size was about 1". As you see in the picture, there was no barnacle around it either. Any ideas?

Re: LOST SOLA600 at Waterman's wall
Richard, That sounds wonderful.I would like to get back there not only because of the light, but also the site itself. It was amazing, even though I did not really hit the wall :P. I usually dive Redondo and TTN, and the high current habitat is just so fascinating! I don't have solid buddy yet, but ...

Re: Hello from Redondo
Thank you for warm welcome! Thank you for mentioning rock greenling. We occasionally go north to get species such as fish eating anemone, white spotted anemone, daisy brittle star and etc. Also some fish (tiger rock and sabel fish)were transferred from other Aquarium or fisheries. I heard from a div...

LOST SOLA600 at Waterman's wall
I dove at Waterman's wall on Sunday, March 17, and lost Sola 600 with short arm attached. The whole arm fell from tray during surface swim, and I did not notice until I was away from boat. on my return I looked around 45' deep around anchor, but could not find it. probably it sit deeper than that. I...

Hello from Redondo
Hello, I am Mikiko from Central Sound, and dive at Redondo and Three Tree Point most. I've created account for awhile ago, but have not been active in this forum. I started diving when I was in 20's, then after long period of dry time, got back in water in 2007. I enjoy observing critters and taking...

Re: Is This a Tumor or What?
I agree Jana. According to Coastal fishes of the Pacific Northwest, " As its long breeding season approaches, a mature male often darkens, the irregular red bands on his sides intensify in colour and he may even develop a bright red, orange or white flash on top of each eye." I saw a lazy ...

Re: Please help ID these guys
That is a sharpnose crab! Some how I have been overlooking female. Glad to know the difference. Transparent disc top tunicate is very cool looking. I found another two of those in my other photo. I've probably been seeing them, but again overlooked them since they are tiny, flat and transparent! Tha...

Please help ID these guys
I encountered two mysterious guys last weekend. I looked up all books I have, but still could not identify them. The one is a crab. The site was West Seattle Reef and it was at 45 ft deep. The carapace seemed smoother and rounder than sharpnose crab. The size of its carapace was about 2". unide...
