Re: 7/8 SaltWater State Park

I've run into current there a few times, so it can definitely get you. Anyway, I saw a spiny dogfish for the first time during the surface swim, fifteen feet below us, and a big school of sandlance on the swim back. I did a REEF survey, and counted 27 different kinds of the critters that REEF monito...

Re: Anyone NOT crabbing this weekend?

You only have to clamber over submerged rocks if you get caught in current coming back, and get blown north. There's some logs on the beach to climb over, but they're not too bad.

Re: Anyone NOT crabbing this weekend?

Yeah, it can be pretty current sensitive, and the reef structure is a ways from shore. Walking back to the entrance among submerged rocks and logs is a pain in the butt too. I usually do one dive there and call it good.

Re: Anyone NOT crabbing this weekend?

Tides look good this sunday morning at Saltwater State Park. If you want to do an early morning dive, we could meet at 8, and splash at 8:30am.

I caught my limit within 10 minutes of dropping, although with viz that bad, it felt like I had the place all to myself.

The pics aren't actually cut off, it's just that the board crops images that are wider than a certain width. The source images are untouched. More technically, someone set overflow: hidden on one of the elements containing the img tags. If you right-click on the images and select "view image&qu...

Also, I think it's a male scalyhead because of the big pre-ocular cirri, and big fat head.

Wow, when I google brachiopod, or washington brachiopod, I get mostly images and articles about fossils. Not so much about current species. Are they really boring to study or something?

Cool! I saw some sea cucumber eggs floating around at Cove 2 in the shallows a few weeks ago, and was wondering what they were. I was thinking flourescent green styrofoam or something.

Cove 2 octo

Here's a video I got of an octo at Cove 2 this wednesday under the Honey Bear: [youtube]http://youtu.be/qgZRUCDan3M[/youtube] Interesting tidbit: Using voodoo magic, YouTube detects whether the video you uploaded is shaky, and then offers to do image stabilization for you! This sometimes creates wei...

What in the heck is this stuff?

So I've been seeing this stuff, whatever it is all over the place lately: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7246/6879957444_f9f6a2c4a9_z.jpg I don't know if it's eggs, a sponge of some sort, or what. What in the heck is it? And I think this is a stout shrimp, but I dunno. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7...
