Where do YOU dive when there's low viz?

Ok, a shot in the dark (um...literally) here people...

I have frequently used Three Tree North for dives when our algae decides to bloom...however, does anyone have any other dive sites they suggest (Bellingham to Olympia welcome...) for the algae season?

Re: Dive Classes at 3TN

I've held classes there...but I only teach 4 divers max at a time. (And they usually come as buddy couples). The toilet facilities are the tough part. I'll be using the site as the water turns to algae, though...as it's Little Hawaii...and I need the visibility. When I used to teach for TLSea, we wo...

Re: fly your flag

We have issues with boaters all the time at Les Davis. Often they use the divers bubbles as fishing spots (not sure which fish they're going after that emit bubbles??) The shore patrol/police have been called when they cruise within mere feet of dive flags....however, there's nothing illegal about b...

Re: Edmonds - Another weekend...another diver

I dove the park a number of years ago with two big guys. This was back when you could do it by scooter. I'm not sure, but I think it may have been my first visit to the park. The first dive we did with scooters...and it was a blast. The second dive, we dived without scooters....and on the surface sw...

Re: Edmonds - Another weekend...another diver

I'm not sure what Edmonds looked like today...but we were at Redondo. And I had two students who the heavy surf got the best of. If you're not in "diving shape"...the water can definitely throw some curve balls at you. This incident we have no other info on...so no idea what happened...but...

Re: the LONG step up at Les Davis

I'll watch this thread...as everyone knows that Redondo is my second home...so I'd be happy to help out (or con some of my dive team into helping, if I'm teaching) with making the lower stair not quite so big. The whole mixing of sports...rock climbing and scuba diving is fine with me...but my stude...

Scuba Set Grand Opening TODAY

If you haven't heard...as I don't see it anywhere on here...Scuba Set in Puyallup is having their Grand Opening today. And while that line sounds like an advertisement...I don't work for them...and am in no way affiliated...other than I think Walt is the most knowledgeable guru in the Northwest Dive...

Re: Diver Health

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to post the times of the sessions on this board as well when I get them scheduled. The Virginia Mason Hyperbaric Chamber tour filled in 24 hours on the GirlDiver International facebook page...as that's the first place I post. But I'll share here as well. Thanks again!!

Re: Diver Health

Thanks Capt Jack...locations, obviously are an issue. The first couple are going to be Seattle and the Eastside, but if there's interest, anything I do SHOULD be re-creatable and then I can hold them in other venues...Peninsula, South Sound...Portland?? Great feedback...this is exactly what I need. ...

Diver Health

Ok, so this isn't REALLY about diving...so thought I'd put it here. I've been concerned about the "health" of divers (um...and the general american populace) for sometime and had started putting some stuff together back in November. Just wanted some feedback to see if there's any interest ...

Future Trippin' - Loreto, MX

Ok, so I'm doing some research...and want to hear from the locals. (PNW locals, that is!) When I was managing an LDS a few years back, they would (and still do) run trips to Loreto. Always in October, as that's the best visibility...up to 130'. However, my teaching schedule in October is still activ...

After seeing this video...I'm really glad the warning at the beginning said everything turned out ok. This video is going into my advanced class curriculum for the Deep class piece. AND...I encourage all divers to take one of the GM workshops. I was a new instructor when I first took Bob's class...a...

Her athletic prowess was a definite contributing factor, but honestly, that's also the advantage of a private class vs a group class. You can get remedial coaching right from the start. Even in a small group, my time is divided...this way, she had all of mine...AND my teams...focus. The fact that so...

Re: From The Outside Looking In

I begin every class with the disclaimer: "Scuba is a very addictive sport. This addiction will cost you far more than any cocaine habit. It may cause friends and relatives to shake their heads and wonder how to rehab you from your addiction. They won't understand the world you've sunk into, no ...

As an independent instructor...I'll feel free to comment here... Look at the other outdoor industries where they have professional instruction. One example...surfing...$60 - $85 per person ($20 per hour per person) for a 3 hour clinic in groups of 6 - 8. Let's see, on the light side, an Open Water c...

Re: Most important items for a save a dive kit?

I'm at the dive sites pretty regularly...and the most common things that I need are silicone (though I've used lip gloss in a pinch a few times...it seems my silicone grows legs), multi-tool (most often used), zip ties and o-rings. Things I loan on a regular basis (because of the BIG SAD kit I drive...

Re: Six Gills in Seattle?

Team Hydrus "does" bait the six gills...however, they also use a sharks cage and have safety divers in the water who have over 300 dives with the creatures. Sharks don't know the difference between the stuff in the water when they're feeding until they "taste" it. If they are fee...
