Re: BCD vs. dive wing set up?

BP and harness are not to expensive, but wings can be. Don't do what I did. First I bought a cheap wing, it had wear and hole problems, then I bought a way oversized wing after an adventure with a Heisure 120 tank. Good advice on this site, look around buy smart.

Re: wetsuit thickness

If I were to go with a 7mm, I prefer a one piece semi-dry suit with a hooded vest, maybe has less material on torso but les water intrusion for me is warmer. But as others have posted. Better to rent for short stay. Longer stay look for a used trilaminate Drysuit, you won't regret it. Can adjust lay...

Re: Cheap/DIY Lights and tray for GoPro Hero3

I just got a GoPro 2 and 3. Plan on using the 2 for diving. I bought a SRP tray and handles, no lights or arms yet. I thought the SRP tray seemed well Built and not too expensive.

I'm thinking I might try mounting my can lightheaded with a diffuser on a SRP arm, sound good?

Re: Dry suits... What do you dive?

I dive a High Tide crushed neoprene.

Pros;
Made to fit
Warm
Durable
Comes with undergarment

Cons;
Expensive
Bulky to dry, store, pack
Can be too warm for moderate waters

I like my High Tide. Made locally. The only repair I've had was to replace a wrist seal, and that's expected.

Re: Youth classes

I agree with Grateful Diver, even though someone goes through a shop doesn't mean they get a good instructor. The PNW has some great ones, some listed here. Pick the instructor not the shop.

Re: Bali Vacation

Typical of NDC, great responded.

I dove the Liberty wreck and Crystal bay. A 3mm was fine, no hood or gloves. I noticed a thermolcline at 25m but no issues. Different time of year might be other wise. I would recommend D Scuba Club in Sanur Bali.

Re: Paddle Fins for Wetsuit

Great input, thanks guys. I'm diving an aluminum BP and OxyCheq wings, no STA. My dives have been an aluminum 80. Though next year I hope to rent doubles with a different wing. I still use my XL 5mm High Tide boots with my 3mm full wetsuit. I have had issues with dive companies allowing me to use tr...

Paddle Fins for Wetsuit

I have jet fins and when I'm on vacation in my 3mm my feet sink too much and I can't get trimmed.

I'm over 6' so my fins are a good ways from my BCD. Of course Drysuit is no problem. Looking for suggestions on trim or a fin I can frog kick and helicopter turn in.

Re: What training do we need next

As far as personal diver development I agree with the Rescue Diver first the Intro to Tech. As far as gear purchases, I would talk to whomever you think you may be talking the Intro to Tech from. Equipment for tech can vary from on agency to another. On a 100+ dive, 1000psi may or may not be alot. D...

I'm not familiar with those batteries, but I know you cant check lithium batteries. Its OK to carry them on. Why one and not the other, your guess Is as good a s mine.

Wonder if he has a rant going on a fishing forum, about those evil, inconsiderate divers, and that they should band together and close cove 2 to diving.

Probably not.

Re: New drysuit choices

I really like my High Tide too, I might get dry glove cuffs installed. For my next drysuit I was thinking of maybe getting a shell style for Hawaii and the like, not to replace the High Tide, just for different conditions.

Re: New drysuit choices

High Tide makes crushed neoprene drysuits in the Puget Sound area and they can custom trailer one to fit.

I like mine for colder water, like Puget Sound. I can be a bit too warm for milder waters.

Bottom Timer

I have an OMS bottom timer and I was wondering if there is a way to switch it to metric since I'm in Asia. So me and my dive buddy will be on the same page. I can always covert it later if I need to.

Re: Bali Vacation

Thank you for the reply. Might be nice to be a little cool. I bought the 3mm for Phuket but was too. I ended up diving in shorts and a rash guard. I was worried about jellies and stinging things. Wish my drysuit was the shell/membrane style. Mine is crushed neoprene, great for cold, not so great for...

Bali Vacation

Over Thanksgiving I am planing a short vacation to Sanur Bali. I've heard different reports on what to wear. I only have a full 3mm wetsuit or a rashie and shorts. Left my drysuit back at home. I'm not a photographer so I'm not overly excited to go see Mola Mola. Sounds like the temperature can vary...

Does any one know of a non rusting version of DIR style knife. Be it titanium or stainless. I tried the cut off steak knife but didn't like it, never got the sheath right either.

If you have a place to store it and will be returning occasionally i wouldn't be too quick to sell everything. I'm in SG, and they only dive from here for part of the year. Unless you travel or do the live aboards. Unfortunately I'm on my way back to Boise for a few months.

Re: Drysuit Warm Water Diving

Warm water is nice not to need so much lead. When I was in Phuket the water was 86F, I was too warm in a 3mm. With the 3mm I was good with 12-lds lead using AL-80, AL backplate. In Hawaii I saw a DM with 7mm Farmer and a 7mm top over that. I asked whynot a drysuit. They responded its tropical, no us...

I have a High Tide drysuit with neoprene seals. I would like to add dry gloves, but keep wrist seals for wet gloves. Any sugestions?
