Monterey area cabins

I live in Monterey. Moved here from the Puget Sound three years ago. It's a 16-18 hour drive from Seattle. The diving is amazing, but be forewarned that while we don't get big tides the swell and surf can ruin your day very quickly. If anyone's coming down to dive make sure and check the swell and s...

Re: 25 dollars for what????

We tried pulling the usual permit for a drift dive Sunday night and the ranger told us the fee to dive had been raised to 25. It's not posted because night diving, or being in that parking lot, isn't allowed at night unless by permit. Fuck the park service. I'm having conversations with Jack the ma...

Re: Deception Pass

I respect your opinions and the recent huge loss to the community. Although allow me to counter the above mentioned "strikes". Strike one: we are intending to get the park's permission to dive the pass at night, just like we get a permission to dive Keystone jetty at night. Devalidated. A...

Deception Pass

You may have heard, but you didn't listen. Many of us on here have multiple decades of experience diving in waters all over the planet. Our hesitation to dive Deception Pass at night has nothing to do with comfort - it has to do with experience, thousands of dives, and recognition and acknowledgemen...

Not me. Low exchange or not Deception Pass is no place to dive at night. And I've dived it more than five times.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to not answer this question. After 27 years the cost isn't worth tallying, mostly because it would hurt too much to see the actual dollar value.

How often are shops required to provide service on O2 monitors? They're not *required* at all. They're not even required to HAVE an O2 analyzer, or to make one available to customers. It's polite, it's prudent, and it's a good thing to do (TM) but there's no requirement. Not in the U.S. and not in ...

Recreational Instructor Recommendations

Waymire isn't an instructor, he's a DM, and having worked at Sound Dive Center for four years all I ll say is you'd better have deep pockets and not much concern for teaching to standards if you're interested in getting certified there.

Re: Point Whitney, Brinnon, WA

If you head due north off the end of the pipe you can hit 130-140 pretty easily, so you may want to modify your max depth for the site.

And as an FYI, the vehicle use permit has been required for four years.

The instructions for accessing it are in the front of your Hog regulator service manual. You should have received a copy of it as part of your class.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried joining it so I don't know if it's active or even exists. Just that the instructions are in the manual.

Blob Fish

The depth might explain their appearance. It does. They don't have a swim bladder. Their doughy flesh is just slightly more positive than the water around them, letting them drift without requiring a swim bladder for buoyancy. Entire that or the pressure has crushed their features to... well... a b...

Lake Crescent is very well known amongst divers. You'll find that unless you go to one of the known dive sites there really isn't a whole lot to see. Also, as a word of warning, the lake tends to get VERY deep VERY quickly. And by "VERY" I mean in the hundreds of feet. Here's a link to Lak...
