Re: Sunday 6/2? Seattle to northend?

Hi,

I'd like to join. I have a prior commitment but could make a 5pm splash at Edmonds if that works for you all.

Re: Dive Training

I wholeheartedly agree with the advice. There is nothing more than I want, than to be able to dive at a different area of the world each year and have many diving experiences. My end goal is to have my own liveaboard and sail the world's waters. Having a house just doesn't sound as appealing to me. ...

Dive Training

I'm looking to logged as many dives in the next several months to work towards becoming a dive master and eventually an instructor. I have about thirty dives although I haven't been logging my dives until I decided to attempt becoming a professional diver. My log book only has 12 dives listed. Recen...

Re: Blue Fire and Green Glow

Wow! Inspiring video and report! I definitely want to see the blue flames for myself. I found bioluminescence while I was on San Juan Island this past weekend. Does the bioluminescence come from the same creatures that cause red tide? I'm just astonish by how ubiquitous is is around the sound? Thank...

Re: American Lobster

Yum! That would have been a good eatin size! Ay one time they tried to grow Main lobster in the northwest but it didn't work out. Looks like there might be some that survived. Then again There are allot of restaurants on the waterfront selling live lobsters so it could be an escapee. A lobster woul...

Re: Sea otter watch

Wow. I never considered my underwater encounters with marine mammals as a violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. I've seen whales, seals, sea lions, and otters, but always initiated by the animals. Some have been aggressive. With my sluggish speed in the water, I don't see how I can avoid t...

Re: Sea otter watch

I kept thinking Monterey, but then was thinking you wanted to stay more local. Then I started doing the math in my head, and it might be actually more economical for you to just fly or drive down to Monterey for a long weekend, do some diving in the kelp forests, and definitely see sea otters, than...

Re: thrusday dive ttn

Great shots! I really like the purple lumpy! The color is so shocking. I soooo want one for myself. I have such the urge to set up an aquarium just to house these critters. Illegal? Immoral? I suppose, I can sell a kidney and shell out the money to take quality pictures myself and leave these critte...

Re: Orcas Island Diving

Hi Francis Wow, I'm camping at Moran State Park that same weekend! (yes, planned 9 months in advanced to get that perfect spot! it's a great camping spot if you haven't been there yet.) I wasn't planning on diving but I could maybe be talked into it, else certainly snorkelling/kayaking. A quick sea...

Re: Sea otter watch

No real difference in my mind between a rat and river otter. The behavior of the two are similar, scurrying almost slithering to some place else quickly. Sea otters seem more chill. Floating on their backs to do most of their activities. They are like lazy cats of the sea. If you actually think thi...

Re: Sea otter watch

There are a few pullouts along hwy 101 on the outer coast where, with a spotting scope, you might see some sea otters. An Olympic National Park interpretive center could probably give you some suggestions on pullouts/mile posts which are more reliable viewing spots than others. Dive access is non-e...

Re: Sea otter watch

There used to be tons of them on the entire pacific coast a couple hundred years ago but by the dawn of the 20th century most of them had been turned in to stylish fur coats for furless humans to wear. Here's a link to some info on the small Washington coast population: http://wdfw.wa.gov/publicati...

Re: Sea otter watch

You all might think it weird but I much prefer sea otters to river otters. I really don't have much interest in observing river otters. I'm really drawn to the mannerisms especially the grooming and laid back feeding lifestyle of sea otters. I was hoping they weren't too far. Looks like I need to ma...

Re: Orcas Island Diving

The Exchange sounds like a place on Lopez island where you do a similar thing and it's next to the dump. I'll have to check it out. I'm a bit of a collector. I would go diving just on the off chance of finding "treasure" on the sea floor.

Has anyone seen any sea otters? I'd love to observe them in the wild and if not illegal go diving with them. Thanks!

Re: Orcas Island Diving

Having no place on the island to refill must have been very disruptive for you. How did you manage to live there for two spring seasons? I'd like to find myself out on the islands in the future. I like the feel of Orcas island and find the small cute little towns really charming. Having no traffic l...

San Juan Island 8/25-26

Last minute trip to San Juan Island this weekend. No reservation to a campground but hoping some kind soul will let us join them at their campsite. If your okay with that setup and want to go diving let me know.
