Re: Canister light warning
The first thing I thought of when I saw the extruded ring was that I wished I'd built it with double o-rings like Jake did.

Canister light warning
Like the Darwin Award, apparently we need a Boyle Award because I had the dumb. This weekend I assembled my canister light the night before my dives. This was done indoors at an ambient temp of 73F. The canister light and other gear then spent several hours in the trunk of my car in blazing sun and ...

Re: SK-7 Sticking
I had a new one that would lock up at temps below 40F. No leaks, no bubbles. Once it warmed up it functioned again. Found out this is a defect some others have experienced in cold climates. It's a problem with the plastic case, not the oil. Ran across a group of Scandinavians who won't use them anym...

Re: Diving the OLD town of Vantage??
I'm pretty sure I talked to someone 15-20 years ago who's dived it and said there were only foundations and a bit of rubble. I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to remember.

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me
So every time I'm tired is because of a "poor ascent"? Really? Come on Ben... Hi Tom :) I'm sorry I came off that way. I didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with your ascents. Everybody was chatting about mixes and I just meant to say a high-oxygen mix isn't a substitute for a n...

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me
A poor ascent is going to make you tired regardless of gas selection. The fatigue is from poorly managed offgassing. Nitrox helps that. An ascent like Jake describes helps that. Combine the two and you should feel more rested after the dive than before. I used to do 60fpm ascents with no stop becaus...

I'm in. Edit: No. Wait. Shoot. I did it backwards. I wanted to give Joe a gift. I owe him for that time I talked him into sleeping in an airport. So who's up next? You get Joe's gift. LOL Edit2: Sweet! I get Mike Z. I should totally just give him his uncle's broken can-light that's on my kitchen cou...

Adobe Premiere Elements is my recommendation. It is both affordable and produces excellent output quality. My prior experience with video editing software was that those two were mutually exclusive.

Sounder and I were filling a giant bag with hydrogen ($0.06/ft^3) on Saturday and ruminating on what a great tri-mix filler gas it would be if it weren't so darn explosive. Oh well.

Re: Anybody here good at physics?
Great responses by Magoi and Lamont - better than I could have articulated. I will add one thought that I hope will help make these concepts seem more logical if they don't already. When you are immersed in any fluid which itself is not accelerating (be it air, water, etc.) your felt-velocity, if an...

The blue biolume really is cool. I did a Redondo night dive with Sounder recently and it was coming out the back of the scooter like a rocket with a blue flame. It was awesome.

So true. I'd say there is no value in anything without some measure of risk. In fact, it's quite proportional. Risk nothing, get nothing. Applies to everything from hobbies to love.Magoi wrote:Quality of life is worth some risks.

You can build/buy a lithium 11.4v 9ah pack that's under 2" in diameter and about 9 inches long. Not big at all. i been doing some reading on lithium battery packs they need a battery protection circuit that prevents you from over-discharging the battery. Over-discharging will damage the batter...

I'm with Brian. A properly installed time-sert is stronger than the original tapped hole. A good machinist ought to be able to TIG repair the hole if it's stripped out and re-drill/tap for the proper insert.
