Re: Feeler: X-Scooter for sale?

Being good with a scooter has nothing to do with your speed or your efficiency -- being good with your scooter is being safe with it. To be safe with a scooter, you need to know how to do the following skills (among others), and then you need to practice them... OOA drills and subsequent procedures ...

Re: Feeler: X-Scooter for sale?

Andrew comes from California to teach this course, and it's a full 3 days of instruction and diving. For 3 full days plus travel expenses, from one of the world experts on scooter diving, it could be much worse :)

Re: Feeler: X-Scooter for sale?

I want to second the opinion that the scooter class is worthwhile. It's all fun and games, zooming along at 100ft, until you do something random like loop your towcord around the trigger and Polaris upwards (yes I've had this happen before). Without the practice and training that a scooter class pro...

Re: Weight options with a crotch strap on hog harness....

My v-weight won't work with a halcyon plate/my doubles, so I use a weight belt instead. Not a whole lot on it, but I still prefer to have a few pounds ditchable and I like having an oldskool weight belt for sentimental purposes :)

Re: Weight options with a crotch strap on hog harness....

I just put my weight belt under my crotch strap, and if I need to dump I pop off both buckles "shrugs" I've honestly done an entire dive with the crotch strap unhooked, and it's no big deal. I'd almost prefer to have that extra safety, because to me it's more of a time-critical safety haza...

Re: Bottom Timer and Tables vs. Computer

Having experienced 2 independent catastrophic computer failures at depth, I can attest that trusting your life to a piece of electronics in an aquatic environment does have its downsides. The first one scared me the most -- I was a younger diver with a Mares computer, and on a night dive at 80ft it ...

Re: DEPP vs. H2Oinsurance

Janna, I'm not sure about DEPP, but I've had mixed feelings about H20insurance. Their deductible is pretty high ($250 minimum or 10% for a flood, whichever is greater), which makes insuring anything but very expensive gear not worth it. ON the other hand, I had a can light flood like Noah was using ...

If you're a taller guy, these tanks are FANTASTIC. I had a pair for quite a while and really liked the way they trim out. Someone will get a good deal out of these :)

Re: We're all a bunch of sissy divers anyway

One of the DMs on my trip to Cabo was a freediver. His personal best was 160ft -- i was flabbergasted. He said he likes freediving much more than SCUBA -- I can see where he's coming from, but at the same time I'll never be more than a casual freediver (I've been to 50-ish and don't want to go much ...

If a certain diver's Fusion-powered back-kick directly into said instructor's line of vision did not produce phasing, then I'm fairly confident that nothing will :)

Congrats on the solid work Pez :)

Thanks Calvin -- I shoot a d70s in an Ike housing with a single DS-125 -- basically as budget dSLR rig as there is, but I find it works pretty well. Not if the guy manning the shutter could only get his act together... :bounce:

I know Chris!!! While I can't deny that I had a blast, missing the epic viz here did sting a little bit. Oh well -- there's always that next perfect week in 3 years or so :) I dove out of Cabo with Manta Divers -- it was a fantastic dive op with some great DMs. We left every morning for the dive spo...

Slightly Warmer Pacific Waters :)

Just got back from a fantastic trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for some fun in the sun. Did 9 dives at local diving spots, Cabo Pulmo, and Gordo Banks. Some of the best diving I've experienced if you like the big stuff. We saw a school of dwarf manta rays twice, eagle rays, grouper bigger than me, st...

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask

If price isn't a concern, then go for the 130s. The extra lb won't even be noticeable, and you'll like having the gas buffer. If price is a concern, and the 119s are much cheaper (like they were when I bought mine), then the 119s are just fine too. In fact, both tanks are mucho gas and trim out the ...

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask

There is already some excellent advice in this thread from divers far more experienced than I, but I thought I'd add a comment about the "planning ceiling dives" without certification. We are really fortunate in the PNW in that we have literally HUNDREDS of dive sites that are recreational...
