Re: Life of a Drysuit

If kayak diving, a lot of shore diving, walking a lot in them... expect a lot less life. My suits since 94: -Harvey's aquacapsul... aptly named, POS! 50 dives then sold. -USIA shell suite: 300 dives, worn to rags due to shore diving/kayak diving. -Apallo closed cell: 300+, it's no longer black, more...

Re: Diving Long Island on Sunday.

It's a spectacular dive. one of my favorite parts was zenning out during deco with my head in the "shrubs"... the macro life was mind boggling. Few places are this robust with life and it's because the current is like a blow torch much of the time!

be safe, have fun, take a camera!

Re: Seacure Hi-Flow for CCR

One of the things I really admired about my Evolution, even though it was not so comfortable on long dives was the mouth piece. It forces your teeth apart, with a hefty block, the most in the industry from what i've seen. At first I thought it was just uncomfortable and then later I grew to apprecia...

Re: The Curse Of Tek Diving

Does this all mean I am anti tek diving? not in the least. The equipment and training that seem to define tek divers are very usefull. BUT, if you intend to go down this path make absolutely sure you are doing it for your reasons and nobody elses. The equipment and the training are tools to further...

the upgrade is awesome, a new mother board and lots of goodies and yes, the screen is eye popping... one of the more generous upgrades I've ever seen by a dive computer manufacturer. some of the best money I've spent. Shearwater looks out for it's existing customers even as it perfects new products....

Craaaap! I doubt i'm the only one wondering what year, what alloy and does it match anything in my basement?... was it out of vip/hydro... I was always told that the DOT intended these tanks to be able to handle falling off a truck on the highway at high speeds without rupture... thus the DOT requir...

Re: Undergarment suggestion

When I buy a new undergarment, it will be a weezle, I've only heard good things about them and I've tried several on and they do seem like the very best. I hated my USIA undergarment. Ever since, I've managed layering Patagonia fleece and it's worked well enough. The advantages to doing layers is th...

Bob, I appreciate your comment, but I am afraid this is all "water under the bridge". I am happy to share it with like-minded people, but how many of us are there? Last count I heard, years ago, was 2-300,000 in WA state alone. Seriously, your writing style could pick you up more than jus...

Re: how i met my first (dive buddy)

I met her in a hot tub at a friends birthday party back in 95 in north Seattle (you asked!). Before that, diving just seemed like something that was way out of reach financially and generally out of my league. I'd never really had anyone explain what was actually entailed. In the coming weeks she ex...

Re: on freedom of choice & the "you're gonna die" mentality

Bob, thanks for this thread. I solo rebreather dive on rare occasion, and I do so knowing full well that I am upping the risk factors substantially. MY wife and I discuss this openly. We have a child and one more on the way and we do not approach these things with denial about the real potentials. B...

Re: thoughts on solo CCR diving.

Laura, first off, thank you for taking the time to write this. I think it takes nerve to openly soul search in this community, it should be commended. We do need to keep asking why, whether it's a famous person, a friend or someone none of us have heard of who bites it while diving a rebreather ever...

Wes's work is stunning and he will be missed! -on the "don't speculate" debate, I can say this: each fatality is an alarm bell that should be allowed to ring, loud and clear, such that the person has not died in vein. We would be remiss to not discuss possible causes and promote better pra...

Re: Diving for Crabbing Advice

Growing up on the east coast and having a serious fancy for the Maryland Blue claw crab and old bay seasoning, I was very excited at the prospects of diving for Dungeness when I first got certified here in the NW. After blowing through 80's, nearly running out of air chasing them around, and coming ...
