[Seattle Times] "What you need to know to start scuba diving in the Seattle area"
From last week's Seattle Times : https://www.seattletimes.com/life/outdoors/what-you-need-to-know-to-start-scuba-diving-in-the-seattle-area/ "Though most of us living around Puget Sound are landlubbers, the underwater kingdom is closer than it seems, waiting to be discovered. There is a vibrant...

Magazine article(s) and website about Edmonds Underwater Park
The April issue of Scuba Diving magazine (now owned by PADI) includes four mentions of EUP. The main articles include an overview of EUP by Amanda Castleman (photos by Annie Crawley). The article mentions that Bruce Higgins did 351 dives in the park in 2020! Annie Crawley also contributed a shore di...

Hollis Wing Seems to Fill with Water
A Hollis Wing always seems to fill with a couple of gallons of water. This doesn't stop it from working, but does make it very heavy when leaving the water. We've heard that a little water can come in whenever one uses the inflator, but we really don't think the inflator is being used very much. Has...

Re: Water Depth Mapping Resource
Nice. It seems like the depths are from mean low tide (e.g. it shows Edmonds UW park as a max of 30 ft), but you can set an option to add an offset (+10 so 40ft)

Re: Save Edmonds Underwater Park & Beach
An update from https://www.facebook.com/saveedmondsbeach/: I wish I had good news from observing the Edmonds Council Committee Meeting tonight discussing the concrete overpass on the beach and funding for design/planning with Parametrix, but I don't. I left convinced that they are going to try and b...

Re: Keystone Jetty
Probably about that, but if the water gets (for example) 4 feet deeper, the rocks have to go out another 5 feet!YellowEye wrote:Not sure if its 168'/2.
We turned around when we saw an orange-painted concrete block on the sand in about 54 fsw. We don't know, however, if it was put there as a turn-around marker.

Here is a new un-official crosssection of the Keystone Jetty at the deep end. https://nwdiveclub.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=34082 Diving the Keystone Jetty last Sunday made me curious about the structure itself. I found an Army Corps of Engineers report (p155-6) and created the mash-up a...

Mystery solved! Thanks to club member Greg Jenson for looking at the video -- He is the author of a beautiful book on crabs and an e-book on flatfish, http://www.molamarine.com/ Greg writes (shared with permission): Hi very cool. The crab is definitely on the hunt, probing the sediment for buried sn...

Bonaire: Crab & Flounder Mystery
Why would a crab chase a flounder? Why would the flounder chase the crab? Last month in Bonaire, we watched a Flame Box Crab and a Peacock Flounder chase each other. We watched for 10 minutes as they went back and forth. I got some of it on video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqU0gWx29ac&feat...

Edmond UW Slinky: "No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'!"
To paraphrase Monty Python: "Look, matey, I know a dead Cabezon when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now." But we eventually figure out that he really is just "restin'". Two Kelp Crab stand guard. I note the Cabezon's claw-like spines. IMG_3028-2-Edit.jpg 25' viz today at...

Re: Bonne Terre Mine, Missouri
We enjoyed it but it is regimented. They take on you tours, on pre-defined trails, more or less in order. Also, it's only open on weekends and they ban (actually, just discourage, you carrying lights). In their defense, they get a lot of warm-water beginners. Also, I think keeping it dim and have a ...

Bonne Terre Mine, Missouri
On our way to a family Christmas in Peoria, Illinois, we stopped by the Bonne Terre Mine (an hour's drive from St. Louis) for two days of underground diving. Here are a few pictures, a short video, and links to more. 100 years ago, this was the world's largest lead mine. Now the site hosts tourists....
