SPatzzzzz Dude! Glad you found your way here! Your membership even came with a free club sticker - I didn't get that deal when I signed up. I think you do need to go diving with Ross, somehow I think you will have something in common. Hmmm. For scoop on inside jokes, Ask Mr. Spatz, He's a nice guy, ...

Re: Spearfishing help? (NO hijacking please!)

I was just in LA area, went to a couple of dive shops, one of them was part of a sporting goods store, they even had a pool in the "Sports Chalet" store! Both stores had more square feet of guns on display than regulators & wetsuits, I was amazed the polar difference in attitudes towar...

Re: Spearfishing help? (NO hijacking please!)

AREA 8-2: I went on 5 or 6 dives, lingcod hunting, in season in 2009, and shot 3, small (less than 5 lb) lingcod. I do not have a boat, and so I shore dive. I know where a group of ling live, and I think that several moved into the area just before season started. I do not have a hard time figuring ...

I hear: + Hollis F1 XL ($129 on ebay, new) + Turtles XXL (checking prices) - Jets ? OMS Slipstream - Hollis F1 XL ($129 on ebay, new) - read Tang & Nailer review - looks good, I think these are the ones I tried at the dive shop back in the summer, and I liked them, except for the price, when I w...

WTB Fins

I'm looking for some turtles or similar: 1.) must have or be easily upgraded to spring straps. 2.) footpocket fits Drysuit boots with size #11 mens (probably a XL) 3.) Must be a little negative - I have a hard time getting my current ones on, they float and it is hard to get my foot in while it is t...

Re: New UW Photographer

You can take your light and mount it to the strobe tray in a temporary way, using pipe clamps, rubber bands, anything you can dream up to hold it till you get the real parts. I made the camera tray and bought handles and arms for my camera. The tray secures to the camera case with a 1/4"-20 bol...

Re: New UW Photographer

Yeah, I shoot RAW. There is also a RAW+jpg option, it gives you both pictures, then you can decide how to edit it later. I just shoot in RAW though, and sometimes use the CANON tools to edit (especially) the color. The upside is the tools are precision, the downside is that they are slow. Usually th...

Re: New UW Photographer

I have the same setup as you do, and I only have a dozen dives or so with it so far. Without the strobe, it can be difficult to get light to the whole frame on macro shots. I just shoot on the top part of the frame that the flash fills in. The light from the flash is a real nice color, so the flash ...

Re: Photo editing software

For free, I would stick with Gimp, because once you learn it, you will have a lifetime tool, it is going to be there for a long time. To use Gimp, start with a pile of photos, look through them beforehand, grab 3 or 4, and get an idea of what you want to do to them. Use the Gimp tutorials, then, whi...

Thanks for sharing - Loved the crayfish. Nice editing - My limit is like 2 minutes too, so I appreciated the short video with not much superfluous material. It is the way it should be.

I started this post to say that I also would like to know how to adjust and service my reg.
But I realized there was another aspect to regulators that I want:

Wanted: a regulator class

I want a shop to give a class that really teaches me about regulators. Shows what the options are. How many are on the market today? What are the advantages to the way this one works, versus the way this one works? And let me try out a bunch of them for fit and feel. Show me that I can replace the m...

Re: Who's your LDS and Why??

Well, I use Everett UWS. It is convenient for air. They are the place to stop for Mukilteo air (air to use while diving in Mukilteo, silly). I can get small things there, but they struggle to have decent inventory. If they had more inventory I would use it for more that air. I think that as a part o...

Rachel Arnold in the news...

Rachel Arnold, a master's degree student in the Burke Museum's ichthyology department, discovered it when doing DNA analysis of Histophryne specimens. Arnold will reveal the Latin species name when she publishes a paper about the new find. http://www.seattlepi.com/local/410961_fish12.html?source=rss

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=44859 _NOT_ worth it. Re: First Dives after OWC

Caution: long post... You will want to try lots of different equipment - try it on at the shop, then when you have seen what some of the choices are, then try them diving. I made the mistake (lots of us here have) of buying early and then suffering with the equipment we bought until we can afford to...
