About to be a Grandpa for the first time

This is probably the most pleasant news I have ever received!I don't know if it is a boy or a girl, just that July is probably the birth month. I will be 66 years old then, I really want to teach my grandchild how to dive, The odds do not seem to allow this, but for the group, how many divers are yo...

Re: 10 Signs You're Addicted to Diving

A group of us were diving in Cozumel and the non-diving spouses remarked that we were all obsessive about diving. We looked at each other and one of the divers remarked "and the problem is".

Nah I am not addicted I can quit anytime I want.

Re: Ever had an equipment failure?

In my save a dive kit I have the tools to adjust a free flowing second stage. I once on the surface had the inflation valve on my drysuit come apart because of a broken retaining clip integral to the valve. If this had happened at depth the fix would be to disconnect the inflation hose and head to t...

Re: How many veterans

US Navy 1960-1966, NOAA Corps from 1972-1991. I am still diving at age 65. As an aside I am from the generation that burned down the administration building to open a dialog. I still love a good heated political discussion. I can’t go to knives and pistols anymore, my dive knife has a blunt tip &...

Re: Summer Beer?

I live and dive on Whidbey Island. We have an excellent Brew Pub in Oak Harbor. It is located at 32295 Sr 20. For first time patrons I recommend getting the beer sampler. So the next time you dive Keystone consider our local brew pub afterwards. There is a brew pub in Everett that has pretty good be...

Re: missing diver?

Assuming it was a beach dive 100ft is about 1/4 mi offshore from Roserio Beach. This area normally has fairly benign currents. It is also fairly shallow. It was Spring Tides that day so near maximum currents during the day. I doubt they were in deep water though. I would like to know how many instru...

Re: missing diver?

Additional information in the Seattle Times. "Missing diver is Walla Walla university student" see full article at: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004426241_webdiver20m.html It is always difficult to read about someone who disappears while practicing our sport. My thought...

Changing the boots is something most dive shops can take care of They generally sent it out, but they can fit you with the correct sized replacement. Option two your local dive shop can walk you through is having "socks" put on your suit and then wearing Boots over the socks. I will let ot...

Why not just get a nautical chart. There is large scale charts (small area) for all of Puget Sound. You can even get the original surveys for little or no cost from NOAA. Why guess/interpolates a small scale (large area) road map.

I may be missing something here, sorry if I am off base.

Proper Boat

My definition of a proper boat is to have one paid crew member.....The bar tender. Seriously essential electronics includes VHF radio, depth sounder, GPS with moving map display with marine charts, ( streets and highways are useless on the water), Radar if you travel, or may, at night or in the fog....

I-beams

Lot of good advice here. You have your air planned, your careful, etc, etc. Then you see a 6 gill shark, WOW super cool. You look at your gauge and you have 300 lps. and your at 100 ft. My advice is wear a Pony Bottle, enjoy the shark, etc, etc. Never ever want to run out of air, plan for the worst....

There is a rock pinnacle in the San Juan’s in Griffin Bay on the East side of San Juan Island. It looks on the chart to be a potential dive site. It is at 48°30.397'N 122°59.474'W

Anybody ever dive this site?

I believe the site North of Rosario Beach is Sares Head. Great boat dive, even has a swim through.

D8ive Site

I am going to have to check this out. I have my boat in the Oak Harbor Marina. this is only a few minutes away. I have never had good visibility in Saratoga Passage, but there is some current, but it is mild. The mouth of the Skagit River is only a few miles away, which accounts for the poor visibil...

We dive this site regularly, a great boat dive. It can be done as a shore dive, but old guys like me prefer the more civilized style of diving from a boat. We also enjoy a glass of red wine on the way back to the marina. HINT to all charter boat operators. We will be there Sunday, looking for a wine...

Dive 100

To celebrate a landmark event I think champagne would be appropriate. One New Years Eve a small group of us celebrated the holiday by sharing a bottle of champagne underwater at cove 2. My suggestion is champagne underwater. In July I will have my 65th birthday. I want to celebrate it some way by di...

I used to use dry gloves in the winter, I had Sitex rings, I do not recommend them.

I have gone to neoprene wrist and neck seals, I love them. Much more reliable than latex!! My question to the group is; can dry gloves be fitted to neoprene wrist seals?

Northwest Diver

Looks Like Jeff pulled the plug on Northwest Diver. Guess I will now become active here at Northwest Dive Club. Glad there is an alternative.
