Redondo 4-8-14

Kathy and I headed out for a noon dive to catch the good high tide. My neck isn't much better than this time last year, and I wrenched my lower back at the Expo on Saturday, so I needed as short a walk as possible. But we both needed a dive so off we went, and all is well. Viz was crap down to about...

Re: ScubaH2O Seattle Show Hours

It really was hard to find. Yesterday we didn't have the signs, so it was even harder. We were volunteering like we usually do, but had to bow out when Malinda got sick. I also hurt my back pretty early in the morning, so for most of the time I was there I felt as if I was walking like a stork. Look...

Potential Dive Shop?

I found out yesterday that the building at 711 S. 25th St. in Tacoma, just up the hill from Lighthouse, is for sale. It's a huge place, but the main feature of interest is a full-size pool. The place used to be a Boys' Club, and apparently it was built before Washington got scared to death of deep p...

Re: Monterey Info?

You can probably find a buddy via Scubaboard. Most of the folks in the northern California forum are from around the Monterey area, and they tend to be as helpful as the folks here, so you might give them a holler.

One problem: it delivers pure oxygen. Try to go to any kind of depth and it'd be toxic.

Re: NWDC Activity...

This is still just about the most incredible group of people I've ever gotten to be part of. It's been my experience that things like this go in cycles; a flurry of activity then it quiets down, another flurry, etc. We seem to be in a quiet spell right now, but I really don't think that spells the i...

Re: Currents and Tide when planning your dive

planyourdive.com has a tide and current app that I use all the time. It's quite accurate and easy to use. Around here, current tends to be a bit more crucial than tide, especially at certain sites. Some, like Redondo and Les Davis, aren't current sensitive so all you really need to look at is the ti...

I thought it was amazing. Did it actually go to sleep, or something like it? Is that a thing they do when they're upside down?

Re: Beach Clean up (above and below)

A bunch of us tried something like this at Les Davis several years ago. It went pretty well, and we collected a lot of below-water crap like food wrappers and such. Stuff that looked habitable, such as bottles or cans, we left there. So I guess our definition of "trash" included "not ...

That's great news. Laura, are photos still useful, or is there something else we could be doing to document this?

Re: Sea star die-off

We dove the south side of Redondo, south of the boat ramp, last week. I saw several sunflower stars that appeared to be healthy, but about twice as many that were either dead or dying. Max depth was 60 fsw, and most of the dead ones I saw were between 30 and 50 fsw.

I'll try to get a screen grab. In the meantime, the video that was on it is dated August 5. So it's been down there for a few months.

Follow-up: if it's your camera and you think it's not worth the bother, guess what: it still works. In fact, there's still some juice in the battery, believe it or not. I'd really like to get it back to you. Contact me.

Re: Found GoPro

Looking at some of the video on this camera, it appears to have been lost there at the Dickman Mill site. There's a lot of video of the user and a snorkeler getting ready to go. I'm going to try and listen to the audio and see if I can catch a name, but in the meantime, if you were there and lost yo...

Found GoPro

Anybody lose a GoPro camera in the Les Davis/Ruston Way area? We found one during a night dive at Harbor Lights/Dickman Mill. It appears to have been there for a while. Tell me something about it and I will be delighted to get it back to you. It was a great dive; we have a chance to reunite someone ...

When you say "for everyone" I assume that's because it would require everyone here pitching in several bucks in order to buy one! (And then we'd have to figure out where to put it.)
