Awesome. Thanks, Greg!
The bright orange caught my eye as I was passing over. At first I thought it was either a Hairy or a Furry. But I got the picture on the computer, and was pretty excited to think I'd found a new one.

Hermit ID?
Hey Greg, we found a Hermit Crab today that we're having a little trouble identifying. It was near the Cabin Cruiser at TTN. You can get an idea of its size from the clam shell it's sitting in in the picture. I think it's a Paguristes turgidus. What I can see in the picture seems to fit. IMG_0669.JPG

Re: Is This Octo-Porn??
Yeah we were having trouble that day. Dad has a Comp-U-Mask, so he was using that for gauges, while my gauges had a low battery. So he switched his console with mine and we just put up with the low battery beeping since we both had something that could tell us how much air we had.

Re: Kronborgia but not in a Kincaid's shrimp?
Looks to me like a Stiletto, I've seen several around. Stiletto Shrimp Heptacarpus stylus.JPG Yeah, this one's red, but they come in a bunch of colors. Various shades of brown like yours, to shades of green, to red like this. Seems to be the same critter to me. The blue spots all over give it away.

Can your camera record video? That's the only way I can think of to get any quality recording of the luminescence.

Just judging on what I can see, I'd say Plainfin Midshipman.

Re: Hmmmm, Expert or Fool????
I'm going to go for Expert on this one, mostly because he's not the first person I've seen to try and prove this, especially not about Great Whites. For the life of me, I can't remember who it was, but a couple years ago, I saw another man trying to prove exactly the same thing. And this man didn't ...

Nudi ID Confirmation
Went for a dive at Fox Island West Wall today, found a couple new critters that I'm fairly sure I've IDed correctly. The first I found was a teeny little Nudibranch sitting on some Hydroids. I've tentatively IDed it as a White-Crusted Aeolid Cuthona albocrusta IMG_3262.JPG And this one I've IDed as ...

Re: BIG Skate at Cove 2
While watching whales from my sailboat at the same spot last week, a sea lion surfaced with a huge skate in its mouth. The skate put up a good fight, but the sea lion won. Wow, I would have loved to see Sea Lion Vs. Skate, I'm sure that was something to behold. Never seen an Egg Case in person, tho...

BIG Skate at Cove 2
Went for an afternoon/evening dive at Alki Cove 2 today, though down around 50fsw, it may as well have been a night dive it was so dark. We had to end the dive early, due to being separated from our buddy, but that wasn't before the three of us got a wonderful look at this gigantic beauty! He had to...

Re: Way out past the Alki Pipeline
I'm not sure either one is right, Greg. As far as the Jellyfish, the knob on top looked like a natural part of the fish, so I'm putting that in as an important part of the Identification. And as far as the nudibranch, the pictures I'm finding on Google don't look right to me. For one, they don't hav...

So anyone have any idea what the Jellyfish might be? Or maybe a positive ID on the nudibranch?

Way out past the Alki Pipeline
So tried to go to the Alki Pipeline today, but unfortunately, we arrived at a very low tide, so my buddy and I were walking even out past the buoy. But we were hankerin' for a dive, so we headed out to where we could drop and decided to see what was out there. We found some lovely eelgrass beds with...

I'm not seeing an appendage? Do you mean that curled tube thing in the foreground? Cause that's a tubeworm of some kind.

Evening at Alki
So Dad and I went for a dive at Cove 2 yesterday with a good friend of ours who promised to take us right to the mama Octo. And boy did he deliver. This would be my first mama octo ever, as mom and dad have already seen this lovely lady, so needless to say, I was hyped. True to his word, our buddy t...

That is really cool! Makes you wonder what they could evolve into given a few billion years, if they followed a genetic path like ours.

Couple of free things
Hey so just got home from the Dive and Travel Expo. I won a grab bag in the drawings, and I have a couple things I don't want, so they're up for grabs. An Aqua Sphere Mask Strap IMG_2963.JPG And a Large Tshirt with the little Diving Froggie and a dive flag. IMG_2965.JPG I'm in Renton, so if anyone w...
