Another entry into Dive Expo videos this year. Did your one buddy realize he had a kelp crab stuck on his leg?

Opinion trawl!!!!

I am curious what poeple think about a possible plan to ditch my two sea and sea YS01 strobes for two light and motion sola 500s. I've read about this set up and I wondered if anyone here has tried it. Ideas? Thoughts? Warnings? I ahve a PEN PL-3 camera. Also does anyone have experience with 10bar h...

Re: Photo Class at Alki Cove with Scott Lundy

I agree with Scott= Lightroom is the best I have found for photo editing and storage. I don't use Photoshop as I don't do graphic desgn. As far as a database that holds all your photos in RAW and for editing, LR is awesome, although I still have a few headscratching moments with LR4.

Re: Opalescent Squid Egg Laying

This is great, the music is perfect, lighting is fabulous, dive expo material here! Amazing how they so very carfeully place their eggs into the cluster. This is a bittersweet, as I think they die after they lay these eggs... but the end is also the beginning... great job, I could have watched that f...

Super Fabulous Sund Rock Diving 1/5/2013

On Saturday I decided to make the 3 hour trek up to Sund Rock to do some Club dives with Oregon Scuba Club. After gearing up at about 9am, with surface temps at 38 degrees and some residual snow, we splashed into 46 degree water and were greeted with 40 FOOT VIZ ! IT was almost tropical for Hood Can...

Wow! Looks like a great class. I am trying to make the compostion class work out for me in February- Scott was kind enough to suggest what class might be good for me after looking at my portfolio...wonderful warbonnet!

Re: First 2013 dive -- Cove 2 tonight

Very nice shot. I had a very friendly encounter with squid at Redondo last month, was on a night dive and had one really want to hang out, back up in front of my mask, swim around, and then actually do this very cool color change thing too for us, it was quite the show. I almost wanted to take him/h...

Re: Non current sensitive "off the beaten path" dive sites?

I'll second Bob on the current at Keystone. Fabulous dive, lots to see, but that current will rip you right around that jetty into the ferry lane and then you are SOL. If you want to find out how efficient homeland security is, get stuck diving in a ferry lane or terminal. This is frowned upon heavi...

Re: Non current sensitive "off the beaten path" dive sites?

I am 3.5 hrs away, but with advance planning I would love to be your friend as I don't have access to a boat. I am verrrry tired of diving hood canal. Everyone I know wants to dive Sund rock, etc. I feel like I know the fish by name. I'd love to explore more with a boat. I don't know the sound very ...

Re: smooth head vs. scalyhead sculpins?

Thanks! It was a padded, huh? I usually see them with that weird breeding patch on the head that the males get....OK, so this picture would be a scalyhead? These ones I look for the spots on the side and the many cirri near the mouth. SOMETIMES they have a bunch of prominent cirri on the head but th...

smooth head vs. scalyhead sculpins?

Am I the only person who has trouble with these? I think the smoothhead is a smoothhead due to the "duck bill" head. I couldn't get close enough to see flesh covered spines on the operculum. Anybody have a cheat sheet to tell these guys apart? Often you can't get up close and personal with...

Re: 2012 favorites

My inital disclaimer- I do not work for Olympus... however I LOVE my Oly PEN PL-3 camera and they are pretty affordable- you can just get by with one strobe or a hand held focus light if you need. IF you looked, you could probably get set up for under 1K with the camera, housing, and maybe a good st...

Planning ahead for MLK day

I'd like to find someone to dive with on MLK day in January (1/21/2013). Ideally I would come up Sunday, squeeze in a dive, and then dive two tanks Monday and head back. I read with interest about diving Fox Island bridge or taking the small boat out of Tacoma. TTN would be ok too. I've also wanted ...

Diving the south coast of ORYGUN...!!!!

This is my usual holiday trip to go back to Coos Bay area where we came from and visit friends and of course, do a little diving if Oceania permits us. So.... If you're in the area of Coos Bay AND the conditions cooperate as OR can be fickle, I'd like to shore dive Norton Cove possibly another spot ...

sekhmet, if you're cat-tolerant, you can crash at our place. We're a half hour from the site, but the price is right. I'm not even sure where I'm going to BE in February, let alone what my work schedule is, but if I'm free, I'll come to the dives. I've had great fun at all the ones I have made it t...

Saltwater State Park jaunt-12/14

I feel like I should have a bumper sticker that says "I survived the surface swim at Saltwater" would be my first comment. After that, it was a really good dive with lots of life on the new reefs and all around it. I was surprised at the size and variety of rockfish that have moved in here...

This is a hike for this OR girl but is there a place (hotel) nearby that isn't really speedy or in use (ahem) by the hour?
Not sure if I want to bounce to 130- but would love to poke around and look for critters.... How far is this from Portland as I live 1 hour south of there....... Thanks!

It's been a long long time....

I haven't been on here in a long time, however my diving skills have vastly increased so I am ready to venture outside of Hood Canal and into sites like Fox Island, etc. would like to find other buddies who would like to dive these sites who wouldn't mind being a tour guide!
