Re: WED MAY 1ST BUBBLE AND SUDS
Not sure that's possible. For many years ago the gooshbags of Washington sinned...yes, they were seen diving with snorkles, split fins, even non-Halcyon gear....and Jablonski came down and saw and Lo!!! he did breaketh the tablets of rules and told the gooshbags of Washington that they must thencef...

Re: Silent World Diving is an innocent bystander!
John, you're right to ask people to back off from Silent World, and I'm sure the shop has handled all the inquiries from concerned and upset divers gracefully and professionally. That's how they are. I do think, however, that we can't ignore the fact that the images and story from the octopus killin...

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection
The problem with this approach is that it would affect the recreational salmon fishery which does troll along the shoreline at certain times of the year typically following depth contours, tide rips, or signs of bait fish congregations. Our cause would not be well served by generating conflict with...

Re: Trim?
Your initial post included the following question: Does it necessarily equate to a particular body position? If so why? Others have already answered the "why". I agree with you that part of the definition of trim includes the idea that you're balanced in a particular position and aren't ha...

Re: Trim?
I know it wasn't the original intent of the topic, but since Richard and Lamont listed some of the benefits of horizontal trim I'll add two more which I think are important. In the horizontal position the diver's lungs and regulator are at the same pressure thus reducing work of breathing compared ...

Cold: XL jetfins with springstraps
Warm: L jetfins that I got for $5 at a thrift shop in Bellingham, with the original straps, work great with booties, reef walkers, or five fingers shoes.

Re: DIR approach
However, if the agency requires perfect trim during skills as a pass (eg: the diver can perform the skills with ease in the water, but at a 45 degree angle, thus failing), I think that might be a little strict. You think thats strict? Try doing it with no more than a 2 foot allowable depth change, ...

Re: CONGRATULATIONS are in order!
I took Fundies so long ago that it was just a weekend workshop. I got my tech pass several years later. My Fundamentals instructor (RJ Myers, son of Rick Myers, of Bandito charters) became my closest dive buddy, and taught me so much. The awesome part of becoming part of the community is that you su...

Re: DIR approach
Also what would be a good manual to start learning history and some of the concepts behind DIR diving? Spend some time on the GUE website, there's a lot of good stuff there, and I'm sure the UTD site is helpful too; I'm not as familiar with UTD, my post grad education has been with GUE. If you ask ...

Re: CONGRATULATIONS are in order!
The smiles on their faces on Sunday were so great to see. Passing Fundamentals is not easy, it's a tough, demanding course and Dan MacKay (my tech 1 instructor) is kind of a force of nature. They rose to the challenge. Well done, gentlemen. I am looking forward to diving with all of you.

I've taken both. Fundies.Ok, I read it all. I learned that Hitler wasn't AOW, and I learned the proper way to perform a Warhammer Maneuver. I still didn't learn whether I should take AOW or Fundies next to improve my personal diving.

Re: Scuba diver "wrongful death" law suit in WA
This is a really interesting subject and I hope Doug or others will continue to comment as things unfold. Lawsuits can be awesome catalysts for change in things like training standards. There's nothing like the cold reality of a death that is found by a jury to have been the result of crappy trainin...

Re: I-90 Bridge - Lake Washington
I frequently dive under the I-90 bridge and on Sunday, someone sent me the link to this thread and suggested it might not be allowed. So I contacted Harbor Patrol on Monday, and they put me in touch with Archie Allen, the I-90 Bridge Manager. Mr. Allen was intrigued by the question, and asked for so...

Re: New Structure at EUP: Crab Trap Problem
MKMC, I've followed up on this with some friends with resources, can you tell me what kind or size of compressor would be needed to run that underwater jackhammer? I might be able to source one for the project, along with a boat and the necessary hoses. Might be easier than running it on tanks. If t...

Re: New Structure at EUP: Crab Trap Problem
Thanks, everyone! I'll go to Edmonds Underwater Sports this weekend and get the scoop and maybe I'll get the opportunity to drill holes underwater, fun! And I'll dive the pontoon again and bring a bag and rescue the refugees. Anyone else who goes in there, if you see crabs and you don't see any way ...
