Speaking of dive-rite, we ordered 10 renal bcd's (rec. wings) slowly everysingle one of the oral inflator buttons broke... 10! of them!!! They said it was a defect and we had to order new parts. We also had a lot of problems with their regulators breaking while underwater :pale: BUT they were purch...

Sure, in some marginal area depending on the agency you may or may not need helium. DSAT is still diving deep air in their introductory tech class (150-160 ft for the final dives, 2 deco gases, no helium). A GUE curriculm has you on helium as shallow as 80ft. NAUI has a recreational He mix 26/17, an...

So Gray, how would one accumulate a full set of facts to make decisions about the need for helium? The only thing that will truly illustrate the need is f*cking something up royally at depth. Ala what happened on the U-who 13 years ago. Those people paid for their improper (IMO) gas choices with the...

Does task loading create the errors or just illustrate them? (I don't know)70ft is kinda marginal to tell. I was at ~95' doing stupid stuff. Day 4 on 30/30 = fewer mistakes. Somewhat because I learned from day 3's mistakes, some because I had a clearer head. The problem with the acclimatization to n...

Personally, I don't think you handle narcosis any better with experience, you may be less anxious about it, but the underlying impairment is still there. I took Tech1 with over 250 dives under my belt and its easy for even the reasonably experience to make major errors - mine were on video for me to...

Well nitrox or not... you dont do a night dive with your friends at 120 feet. Especially if the are newbie and still wet behind there ears... I knew, and I told jeff before we went down to our dive , That those 3 kids were going to have an accident , and that one of them was going to be going home ...

Usually if you are acute the fire dept will transport you. If you have no acute immediately life threatening injury they will arrange for a commercial ambulance. Actually, it depends on the municipality. In January Auburn FD started charging $$ to transport patients and now transports almost exclus...

Perhaps I missed it, but why was the diver taken from the scene to the hospital while experiencing no apparent problems? What it precautionary? Was the diver outwardly upset or panicked once he was back on dry land? Or, do we not know? Also, I appreciate the way this is being talked about - so many...

Well you're still narced. Your perception of it definately changes over time and from day to day (does for me esp. day vs. night). But your ability to respond to problems hasn't substantively improved, except maybe slightly through increased familiarity with the site, gear and buddies. Personally, I...

I don't dive air at all. The advantages of nitrox are used on most every one of my dives, I'd be heading shallower quite a few minutes earlier on most of my dives without it. And my gas choices are standardized across my team/buddys. I also don't dive 32% that close to the edge where I couldn't help...

Get a shell suit. I dove an Apollo for several years. The compression at depth and reduction in warmth was noticable, leading to having thicker undergarments, but of course that required more lead to get down... The Apollo's ankle valves are also totally BS. Its like the suit is designed to put your...

Bring big tanks of 32% nitrox (if certified) 100s or larger. Stay above ~100 ft - you are more narced than you realize. Go slow and try not to see the whole ship on 1 dive. You can come back some other time, CO2 is very narcotic so take it easy. slooooow you ascents esp from 50ft to the surface. tak...
