Re: Nudi ID (hopefully)

That could be-right colors and blobby shape. If it wasn't so tangled up in the weed it would be easier to ID. I also think it could be [albus] based on this pic you posted: http://www.nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9535 Did Day Island yesterday. Excellent viz so went down slope instead of s...

Re: Flooded Camera

Suggestion to all camera owners and most divers for light The best tool(s) I have found to prevent flooding are a shop magnifying visor, strong light, and patience. It is AMAZING the amount of tiny hairs, nit, lint, crap and corruption I find under strong magnification on an O-ring I JUST cleaned an...

Re: Dry suit undergarments....

but why would one need super warm fleece, etc. for an undergarment to go under a dry suit??? arent dry suits supposed to be warm in and by themselves?? .....I have a new 7mm neoprene dry suit, so does this mean I need to get warm fleece to wear under it? . I'm just confused, lol....(maybe a blond m...

Nudi ID (hopefully)

Found this one in some wire weed on Possession Point. Probably 20' of depth. Didn't see any others in the weed. Can't say I've ever seen this one before.
It's kind of a blob, maybe 1/2-3/4" long.

Re: Dry suit undergarments....

Our club is having a similar discussion right now. A couple of fairly convincing suggestions for wool have been put forward. The argument is warm when wet, compresses less, maybe better buoyancy characteristics. Some of the newer wools are non-itchy, plus wash and wear. Anyone have any experience? B...

Re: Soft Weight (seasoft)belt Question...

Before I took up diving I ended up with a box of maybe 20# of some kind of small rounded cutting bits (I think). The family used them as a joke to weigh down gift boxes. Somehow they disappeared. I sure could put them to a proper use now.

Re: Soft Weight (seasoft)belt Question...

No way to stop it once started. Initially the pellets are sealed (tumbled in graphite) but this soon wears away with mechanical rubbing. All soft weights are subject to this. Hard weights are also but have less surface area exposed for their volume. One woman I know got tungsten carbide. Even more d...

Re: Redondo Recap

I'd say wool socks MAY help. Won't hurt unless you don't have any room for them. The reality is when YOU start getting cold the first thing to shut down is peripheral circulation-feet first, then your fingers usually Go much deeper than 50-60' and your 7mm wetsuit becomes a 2-3mm wetsuit from compre...

Re: weekend diving

Unexpectedly I ended up with April. Another club member invited her to my Skyline dive. Spectacular day. Trivial currents and the invertebrates were out in full force. Beautiful wall when it's like that. We found several candy stripped shrimp, GPO's and my personal highlight was a Juv. King Crab. On...

Re: Semi Dry vs Dry

I've been diving with the most active and largest club in the NW for over a dozen years. We have ONE guy that is a confirmed wetsuit diver. All other divers, as indicated, either go dry or quit after awhile. Minimally they only dive in the summer. It's AMAZING what a difference a few degrees makes. ...

I suggest rather than just hope "they" post a permanent flag that some one(s) might step forward and become a diver interface with whatever agency does this. Person to person contacts facilitates this process significantly. Jana or Mike Racine at WSA might be good places to start to find o...

If you are more or less 'standard size' look for a used one cheaply. People are dumping them all the time.
For long term successful diving in Puget Sound the vast majority end up in a drysuit.

Re: Eustation Tube Dysfunction- Anyone???

I suggest a shore dive with a gradual slope. Start in chest deep water. If you haven't cleared 2-3x by the time you trim out level at that depth you are already behind. Proceed gradually down slope with absolute attention to the ears and any pressure. Clear ahead of ANY discomfort and at the merest ...

Checked your profile, almost 50 dives. When did this appear? Sudden onset associated with an event/illness? Re: Need a new neck seal after only 100 dives

You can always get a flaky seal but that many in that short of time indicates some kind of contamination. I've had a particularly good set last 5 years with routine care and their replacements go in less than 6 months. A likely suspect around here is oil (boats). You swim on the surface, oil floats,...

Been on it numerous times for sinus issues. The standard course is a high starting dose with a taper. Some Dr's now do a somewhat lower dose for few days, then a taper. Reactions are not predictable. Some times I've been on it I genuinely thought I had achieved some sort of grace. I felt fantastic, ...

Tend to be shallow and in eelgrass but can turn up most anywhere. You have to look HARD to find 'em. I've actually have a slightly higher lumpsucker count I think. There's a small display tank in the Aquarium that has 5 hiding in some eelgrass. Folks walk right by it since they don't see anything. I...

Weather was great, folks were really nice and I got to see some people I have not for a good while and met...

Don't know about Chelan but I tried to do a recovery dive for a lost jet ski cowling in Mason Lake. 4th of July, water skiing in a shorty weather, right? My wife took full NW dive gear. I compromised and took a 4mm neoprene drysuit (windsurfing), no hood, no gloves. At 30 feet the temp dropped 10 de...

I'd take this statement with a bit of skepticism: "Anyway the ER doc called DAN and was told this is a fairly common experience and is cold water pulmonary edema." That's an on-call Dr. on the phone. I doubt he had the stats at his immediate disposal. The DAN site says this: Records indica...

Arctic, I think you mean "trachea" rather than "esophagus." how does an air embolism happen at depth? Or can it happen? To be overly simple, same way it happens on ascent. Generally it's an overpressure accident. Hold your breath on a full lung, ascend just a little too much > b...

I wouldn't worry about tenths. When I was in active medicine (Respiratory Care) I used O2 analyzers all day long.
