Claudette's best guess was an eelpout

I don't think he was an eelpout. According to the drawing, their fins come to a rounded point, if you look closely, this guy's tail fans out. It's most visible if you look at the one of him next to the starfish in full size.

I'm not entirely sure where it was. I think it was near some rocks, but they were scarce. Thanks very much for the help Greg. That is why you are my inspiration for this.

These are three Hermit Crabs that I found at Monterey in various places. They have me stumped. The one in the upper left corner, I have no idea what it is. They all varied in size but I'd say the average size was 1 to maybe 2 inches.

This is a lovely little collage I made of the various Hopkin's Rose Dorids we photographed in various locations during our trip to California.
