I thought so but I was told they don't eat crabs. Hmmm guess the pros don't know it all!

Re: Crab...its whats for dinner
The question is "What's got him?" I can see the crab legs but can't make out what's having him for dinner.

Relitively rare nudibarnch
Here is a unique one for you. They are a cuthona flavovulta. These guys are extremely small and only those who have real good eyes and look really close will ever "see?" them. http://www.smugmug.com/photos/288815424_GrsyW-L.jpg http://www.smugmug.com/photos/288815807_R327q-L.jpg http://www...

Help for sea lemon ID's
These three are often confused. Hope this will help unconfuse them These are Heath's dorids. note that the tubricles (little bumps) are not very pronounced and they are random in size. Also the black markings do not cover the tubricles. Another giveaway is the the rinophores are round, smooth and fa...

Grunt sclupins can change their color
I didn't know that the grunt sculpin could change colors to match his environment like octos and other critters but Wednesday I made this awesome discovery! When I came on this little guy he way snuggled against a yellow sponge. If I hadn't seen the two huge Monterey dorids on the sponge and stopped...

Re: A New Nudi For Me - Berthella californica sidegill
Hey Tom one really good way to tell that these are side gills other than the absence of gill plumes is that the rinophores come from under the upper body skirt in the front instead of out of the top

Re: A New Nudi For Me - Berthella californica sidegill
Yep, that's what it is. We found our first ones on one of our boat dives, I forget which one. They don't seem to be that widespread, so when you find one it's quite a treat. Apparently kind of like those golden dironas, which we never got to see :crybaby: Ya gotta have good timing for the Golden di...

Re: A New Nudi For Me - Berthella californica sidegill
Very nice, Tom. I agree with you on it being the Berthella californica. I saw my first one only couple month ago on Young Island near Fidalgo Island. Never saw one before, although I remember other people finding them in the Sound south of Whidbey. Watch it, now they will show up everywhere :) LIke...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Thanks for that shot, Jan! Now I'll be on the look for the little white "umbrellas" in the eelgrass, and when I find them, I'll know what they are. Funny that the hooded nudis are winter creatures there; at Edmonds, they seem to teem through the spring and summer. Maybe that's where they ...

Re: Fish with attitude!
Is the RIL sitting on eggs? Not that I could see. He was just a big fella that wasn't going to move away from his favorite spot. As for the lings head it looks like that cause he was spreading his cheek's and making himself as big and menacing as he could. just after I snapped the pick he clobbered...

And that when you find them that time of year, it's usually in very shallow water. (15 ft or so) So I'm thinking...
