Re: Redondo looks like a dumping ground

You know, I generally like to think of Divers as good-natured and easy going people who just like to have fun. People like you all could very easily change my opinion. Just because the tires and the plastic toys aren't going to break down into their natural states in our lifetime doesn't mean they'r...

Re: Redondo looks like a dumping ground

plastics and car tires are not naturally occurring, nor are they broken down by the creatures living on it. there are better materials than plastics to provide structure for life. Does it matter that they're not naturally occurring? The critters don't care. Edmond's Oil Dock was proof of that. The ...

Re: Redondo looks like a dumping ground

I don't know, let me see..... the lights should have been recycled... money in the material alone... the bug would have been scrapped out and melted down.. neither one would have ended up at the dump...same for the pipes, stoves, and dishwasher But hey! every site needs a toilet, right? could have ...

Re: Redondo looks like a dumping ground

Structure versus junk is a pretty old arguement. Sunken boats are natural-ish structure, VW Bugs are not. Both are generally well liked at Redondo. I don't think its so much a matter of natural structure as it is a matter of well thought out attractions. Buzz and T-rex add nothing to the site. IMO,...

Ah ok. So is it feeding off the Perch's blood like a Mosquito or is it eating something else?

Re: Poor fishy

Yeah but I know that some of the critters that stick to fish in this area are relatively harmless, even in big numbers. Is this Perch in any danger from them?

Poor fishy

I feel kinda sorry for this Perch. He had two HUGE parasites, one on each gill cover. He was very evasive, but I finally managed to get this halfway decent shot of him, you can see the parasite on his right side. He had one about the same size on his other side. Are these things hurting him at all o...

Shrimp IDs galore!!

Alrighty I'm back on the site with a vengeance. Tonight, we're taking a look at many shrimps that have accumulated in my To be IDed folder and I'm hoping Greg may be able to shed some light on the subject. *ahem* Subject #1 I don't know what this may be, my best guess is Mesocragnon munitella. ... Re: id please

Yup. Buffalo. You can recognize them easily by the big round head that just sorta narrows down to the itty bitty tail. Plus their eyes are a really cool mosaic of colors if you get a good look.

Re: More for the ID pros

I dunno it may be sand, but a little color I can see on the back of the eye looks more Pacific Staghorn to me. And I have seen PS's buried in the sand, so that would be my best guess.

I'm not so sure, this guy looks a little tall and flat to be a prickleback. Darn Idaho for not having our critter books!!!!!! :steamingears: :banghead: ](*,)

Do you have any other pics? Even if they're not that good, they might help with a positive ID.

It's not much, but this is my photo of him. I took it in A2Z with my DS and had to take a picture of the screen just to get it to where I could use it. It's him in one of his happiest places and I'll always remember him like this.

Few critters from Alki

Did a pretty cool dive at Alki a few days ago and I found a few interesting critters. Two of em I need some ID help. The third, I just wanna brag. lol. First isn't the shrimp, it's what's inside the shrimp. I found two of these guys right next to each other and the one not in the photo didn't have a...

I believe the Hermit is a Maroon Hermit. From my personal experience, I've seen them to be pretty common in the Monterey area. Still a nice find. :smt038

Couple critters from Redondo

Well here's a report from the impromptu Club Dive today. Dwashbur I'm sure will be posting his own pics later, but right now I'm looking for some ID help. First we have a strange little flatworm or something I found on a piece of sea lettuce. It was probably about half an inch to three quarters of a...
