Re: Whidbey Island Critters - in footsteps of Jan

Thank you Dusty ! Today I have learned talking to Paul at Bubbles Below that many many people have learned a lot and got inspired by Janna & Greg and obviously Jan. We are privileged to have those Experts helping us with Critters identification. Here below I am adding another testimony with pict...

Re: Stout shrimp pretending to be a new species

Thank you Curt ! My desire to find a new species and name it after Jan as “Jankocianus” has been solid and strong and that was even before I found today another Jan’s forum: “Down the memory line”. I have spend most of today glued to the computer screen reading it. It is another UNBELIEVABLE story d...

Stout shrimp pretending to be a new species

I have recently captured a photo of a critter that I could not find anything look a like in Andy Lamb book “Marine Life of Pacific NW”. See for yourself: PICT3043-stout-shrimp-pretend-new-half-zoom.JPG PICT3043-stout-shrimp-pretend-new-zoom.JPG I was lucky enough to attend the recent Moss Bay Divers...

Re: Moved from Whidbey Island Critters

Thank you Janna ! This is very very helpful. I have captured couple of dozens of Goby pictures and the name “Black Eye” is very misleading. The eye coloration varies and does not in many instances differ from Bay Goby. Your explanation about fine scale vs larger scales is the most distinguishable di...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

I have finally caught up and read ALL 107 pages (2600+ postings) in this “Whidbey Island Critters” Forum. I have never in my life expressed so many times in a row amazement, astonishment, surprise and excitement with words like: WOW !, GEE !, That is truly AMAZING ! That is UNBELIEVABLE ! How did He...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Dear fellow Divers, I have seen a lot of encouragement to Jan over the years in this chain of postings to publish a bigger book. I have been strongly encouraging him as well. Until our feedback and momentum reaches the critical mass and Jan decides to publish a larger book we can support Jan by buyi...

Re: Langley Tire Reef closing

Team, Unfortunately the Langley Tire Reef access from the shore for diving is closed permanently. I posted the comment on "The Perfect Dive" Site and notified Whidbey Island Dive Center so people do not waste time driving there: Langley Tire Reef | USA: Pacific Northwest Marek Sk 3/27/2014...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Thank you Jan ! This is a very valuable feedback you are sharing. You have a unique perspective and years of diving on Whidbey Island area. Most of my diving is between Titlow to the south and Mukilteo to the north with occasional Bandito charter (Sunrise Beach, Zs reef, Maury Island ). The reason I...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Thank you very much Jan ! I guess this was my very lucky week when it comes to marine mammals. I was diving on March 24th in Salt Water State Park and a harbor seal decided to play with me “hide and seek”. The seal was coming very close to me under water then doing the flip going away bobbing his he...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Hello Jan, I have found this chain of your posts about 2 weeks ago searching for information on Keystone Jetty (after first time diving there) and started reading pages from the beginning. So far I have read up to page 50 so another 56 to catch up. It has been a fantastic journey learning from your ...

Hello !

In short, I am an aquatic creature: sailor, windsurfer, swimmer, former lifeguard (1985-1995), free diver most of my life, now scuba diver and underwater photographer. It is so cool to breathe under water without a need to go to the surface!
