BTW - I've done NW Island three times ... twice off of Lu Jac's Quest and once off of Jock's boat. The west side (opposite Rosario Beach) has some interesting structure and lots of life. The east side (facing Rosario Beach) is reminiscent of Cove 1. Hazards differ from side to side as well ... on t...

:angryfire: Crap! I want to dive this site. ](*,) Well, maybe some other time. I never imagined that you couldn't dive a location on such a small exchange. So what's next? Don't give up. Good tidal conditions for Skyline Wall occur at regular intervals - the right dive day is never far away. As it ...

As a followup on this topic... I attended the meeting in Freeland on Wednesday night. The room was packed (probably 80 to 100 people) - the organizers were quite overwhelmed. The dive community was well represented - I think a quarter of the attendees or better were divers. Mike Racine of the Washin...

Re: Pacific Stomach Wing

Saw a couple of these (Pacific Wingfoot Snails) at Langley Tire Reef (Whidbey Island) last night - really amazing creatures. It is difficult to stop watching them - like watching hooded or giant nudibranchs swim. Those in your pictures are pretty much typical in size in my limited experience.

What about Whidbey Island? There is the Jetty, Langley, all the Mukilteo sites and you might be able to hit the north whidbey sites in and around Deception Pass. I didn't look up the current exchanges, as deception pass and the jetty can be a bit current sensitive. I am sure that there are other No...

Re: Extremely unusual Ling Cod eyes!

Pete, If Lingcod have no swim bladders, being Greenlings and all, how can they experience expanding gasses to that extreme? Rockfish yeah, that happens all the time. But have you ever seen a ling like this? - Janna :) The only Lingcod I've seen like that had recently been exposed to spearotrauma. I...

Re: Extremely unusual Ling Cod eyes!
Yesterday at Pulali Point we spotted this Ling - looks VERY uncomfortable, doesn't it? Anybody else ever seen anything like this before? It was a first for me, at least as far as Ling Cod go. I've seen bulging eyes on several Red Irish Lords before though.
It's ...

So, what did he do with the cheetohs afterwards?! :) Don't tell Janna, but I popped them back in the bag and passed it along to her. We were all really hungry, the Cheetoh supply was dwindling, and a few nosibranchs never hurt anyone right? I don't know what compelled me to stick snacks up my nostr...

I enjoy diving with a lot of different people. I think a couple of them might have the presence of mind, fitness, strength and experience to bring me through a really ugly situation that got beyond my own control, but only if they were right there with me and aware when it happened. I compare the ri...

(to answer the question about anchovy mouths) Anchovies are suspension feeders. They often swim into the current with their mouths agape filtering tiny organisms from the flow. They'll also dart and snap at larger individual morsels - just like other herring. One of the aquariums (Monterey? or maybe...

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it Jan. FWIW, I'll likely do a couple of dives at Langley either before or after the meeting in Freeland if anyone is interested in joining me. CaptnJack - I don't know about a public comment period, but I suspect that any letter written would be given so...

No more diving at Langley?

Hello folks - wanted to pass along information which some might find interesting. Many of us are familiar with the popular shoredive site by Langley Marina on Whidbey Island (ie, the "Tire Reef"). As part of the region-wide effort to clean up tire reefs and creosote pilings, this site will...
