Re: Anacapa Island, Calif. Report # 2

Your photos are awesome!

The giant stride off of the Spectre makes the previously-scary stride off of the Peace look like baby's play now. :)

Re: weekend footage

If you look closely on the right side of the clutch of eggs, and when she blows on them, you see there are many unhatched eggs behind the empty casings. The last 2 nights there have been one or two babies over each den, i think possibly more but the fish suck them up before they make it out of the ...

Re: Hi! - another newbie intro

Hi Greta, welcome. Despite diving around here for eons I just recently jointed NWDC myself. I saw your interest in GUE classes/workshops on another thread and although I don't have any information about upcoming classes, I've taken a lot of classes with GUE. If you anticipate taking a class and woul...

"Grab-n-slap." After seeing this I will never attempt video again. Really nice and yes, it looks like the vis was spectacular too. You have mad editing skills (and some nice ink) Green..... :notworthy: I'm having a lot of fun cranking out little vignettes from diving. Having a great camer...

Your first video of the GPO swimming is awesome! You did a really great job of capturing different angles and POVs.

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Dove "the office" on Thursday around 5pm. Vis was spectacular. Here's a quick grab-n-slap video replay of Thursday afternoon's dive... it ain't anything special, but it shows how good vis was that day. Oh, we also saw 5 huge GPOs along the way so there's some footage of some of them too. [...

Re: DUI ZipSeals neck ring system

Not a fan of the Zipgloves though. I like having my hands free and my gloves are the last thing on and first thing off. Having standard seals, with Diving Concept rings mounted seems to be the way for me. Actually you can have both! I have the wrist zipseals on my suit. I then put the rings on the ...

Awesome dive, great vis! Lots of big adult GPOs. I could see the surface ripples from 50 feet down. Ambient light clear down to 100 ft. And sunshine, sunshine, sunshine both before and after the dive. Great way to kick off the weekend! :)

Re: DUI ZipSeals neck ring system

Yeah that was my concern but I have since read a couple other boards and find you can't get them except to have them installed on a DUI suit by DUI techs so :neener: :neener: to DUI and their anti competitive policies! This is because the zipseals are only available on DUI suits. They require quite...

Paul's a great guy (even if he's an Aggie). ;)

Paul, this is the group I was telling you about that hosted the dive-o-rama down in Redondo last Saturday. Lots of fun and knowledgeable folks and plenty of dives being set up.

Hope you (and Jen) can join some dives now and again! Welcome!

Re: Edmonds or Alki Sat 9/25

SoooOOOoooo, let's call it 9am at Cove 2 for at least 2 dives. If there are more adventurous sorts who want to do a 3rd dive they can (I will not be able to do so as I have plans in the PM involving hopeful sunshine and motorcycling). Jim, you're welcome to join us! See you at the Cove on Saturday.....

Hello pedler aka former neighbor and pjgoodman... I'd be game for doing a dive or two on Saturday AM. Say when and let's go. There may be another couple of folks who'd like to join us as well. Lots of good people here to meet... Either Edmonds or C2 work great as I live right in between the sites. P...

Re: Scuba Trivia! Win Prizes!

Mike, you are up next! Well done. this light-hearted trivia game just went down the deep dark tunnel to dorkville. Uh, that happened on question 3 or 4 when the PPOx question was asked... :) I thought the gas laws question was a gimme since it's from Ch 2 of anyone's OW book... maybe not? ;)

Re: Scuba Trivia! Win Prizes!

Glad to know that my pre-Tech-2 reading and my EBSCO account are useful for trivia games! :taco: Let's try a "Back to OW Basics" multi part question. There are 4 Gas Laws that are essential to SCUBA diving. In order to receive credit for their response, the respondent must: 1. Name and def...

Funny post. Glad we got the chance to hit the water. Thanks for the dive (and the Guinness)!

Re: Club Dive! Club Dive! Club Dive! September 18th!

It was very, very cool to see so many dive-happy folks in one spot. It was quite the to-do, and I was very glad I came! Folks were very, very welcoming and just about everyone made a point to come up and introduce themselves when they came over or when I came over, which I really appreciated as one ...

Re: on freedom of choice & the "you're gonna die" mentality

I recently dove with someone new (to me) and heard them say to their buddy at the end of their pre-dive gear-check "Everything works and I can save your ass." That's what I'm talking about. I do not go into the water planning to be a liability. I go in as prepared as I can be. I go in wit...

By means of introduction...

Last winter I had a fairly hilarious prolonged encounter with an adult giant pacific octopus right in our very own Cove 2 that involved an arm-wrestling tournament, a flooded mask, and me almost donating my Scout backup light to the critter's "shiny things" collection. Since that encounter...
