Re: Help, YS-250 Strobe
I have a suggestion. It might be possible to have the shop send the repaired unit to the place you will be staying in Maui. Good luck.

Re: Starfish baby bloom?
The staff at the Seattle Aquarium are involved in the research on the syndrome. The vet was interviewed on Science Friday recently and talked about the baby bloom. The research has indicated that young starfish are not as susceptible to the disease until they get to a certain size, then they die qui...

Re: Alki Pipeline
I have always liked the Tubular Reef. The way I dive it is to enter the water and walk to where the pump station is located. Then I take a compass reading on the buoy way out there, which marks the end of the pipe. Have only missed the rocks once on first try. I follow the rocks to where they end an...

Re: Future Scuba Diver!
I volunteer at the aquarium on Thursday mornings, but do not dive there yet. A dive buddy of mine has been diving at the aquarium since the 90s and he is also there Thursday mornings. I could probably arrange a meeting and Jim would know if a behind the scenes visit can e set up. You can also contac...

Almost all of the divers I see regularly here have a back inflate BCD or BP/W. I started with a BCD (DUI Delta that is no longer made). I switched to a BP/W setup about 3 years ago. I like my setup - I prefer the ring wings rather than the horseshoe (I am a recreational diver, single tank). I have a...

Re: Springtime Nudibranchs at Titlow
Glad to hear this as I've seen little to none at TTN and Redondo Did a dive at Redondo on Mar 26th. We saw 4 different nudis: a few Noble Dorids, a Brown Horned Dorid, a Shaggy Mouse, and a few White Lined Dirona. They seem to be coming back at Redondo as well. The Brown Horned Dorid was a new find...

Re: Nudibranch ID
I agree with the shaggy mouse . The photos in my books do not show two rows, which is what led me astray. Behrens describes the ridge tail as having unusually long antennae and distinct white spots which matches this photo.

Nudibranch ID
My wife & I did a dive this afternoon at Redondo and found a nudi that is new to us. I think I identified it from Behren's book as a Ridge-tailed Dorid (diaphorodoris lirulatocauda). Can anyone confirm? Ridge-tailed Dorid 1.jpg Ridge-tailed Dorid 2.jpg I also want to confirm the ID of this guy, ...

Re: ratfish gathering question
The times I have seen them in large numbers (also under a pier) was in mid to late fall. They replaced crabs pretty much during the second part of the crab season at the Muk oil dock.

What is This?
Was in the bottle field at Redondo yesterday and took a couple shots of a small octo. Did not notice anything unusual until I looked at the photo with the worm like thing. The worm photo was my second shot.

Sculpin ID Help
I shot just one picture of this unusually colorful sculpin at God's Pocket in November. I went through Greg Jensen's sculpin book, and I think it is a Smoothhead, but am not sure. Can someone ID it? It was about 4-5 inches long.

The viz at Cove 2 yesterday was 15 ft max, a little less shallower than about 30 ft. Did not go below 80 ft. I think the critters thought it was night time.

Cove 2 Quillfish
Found a new critter (for us) today at Cove 2. Wife got a photo - not good, but it is clear enough to identify. Always a good day when you find something new. This guy was about a foot long, about 3/4 inch tall.

Re: Looking to dive while in the Seattle area
Weather is looking good for tomorrow. Edmonds may be doable too. Edmonds has large ling cod and cabezon, should have nudi's too. More likely to see octos at Redondo. PM me your contact information.

Re: Looking to dive while in the Seattle area
Good location. I am in NW Seattle, about a half mile from Shoreline. North wind predicted, Redondo would likely work. Edmonds would probably be choppy. Moderate exchange, mid to late AM looks like a good time to splash. Could probably carpool.

Re: Looking to dive while in the Seattle area
I am available Friday. Could do a dive in the morning. Will need to see what the wind is doing, but Redondo is a great place to see some ocean life. I would probably bring a camera. Where in Seattle are you located?
