John, thanks for the speciation. I learn a ton from seeing people's pictures with the identifications.

Calvin, gorgeous anemone photos as always!

I'm amazed you got any photographs in that awful murk! The only reason I knew I was still with Bob was because his HID light was glowing :-)

My husband dives HP 100s and likes them, and they're enough gas for the vast majority of the diving we do, until we get to things like the wrecks in Nanaimo. I dive LP 95s, and given fill pressures, not infrequently enter the water with more gas on my back than he has . . . I personally wouldn't tak...

Both my husband and I frequently dive weekdays, and we're in Woodinville, which isn't that far from you. Edmonds is pretty accessible to both of us. Let's talk about a time to get wet!

Definitely better as a boat dive, but for those of us who are -- temporarily or not -- boatless, this IS a way to access the site. :-)

Well, Bob and Peter and I set out today to visit this site. Unfortunately, Peter forgot his hood, so only Bob and I hit the water. A couple of comments: Getting down to the water from the road involves some clambering. It worked better to take the gear down and set it up on the logs, and not try to ...

Kari, If you aren't on ScubaBoard, sign up over there and PM Rick Inman about diving opportunities on the WA/ID border. If you make it over to our neck of the woods, give me a shout; one of my true pleasures is taking novice divers out. I was shown so much kindness when I was new, I love paying it f...

I love my Vytec, and I believe that's a pretty good price for one. It has very large numbers in the display (good for old eyes) and will run in gauge mode.

But warranties generally do not transfer to new owners of just about anything.

Anybody want to get videotaped?

I had so much fun doing video for Doug's Fundies class that I want to do some more of it. And I thought, if anybody is interested in getting taped, to see how their skills are or whatever, I'd offer to hook up with them and do it. I have a little P&S camera that has a video mode, and the clips a...

Oh, an evening event at Edmonds would be lovely. They have picnic tables there, and the diving, for my money, is better than Les Davis.

I was pretty woefully inept at the end of my OW class . . . And it was a good, and comparatively long one. I never successfully completed a descent without hanging onto my instructor's BC. I had no buoyancy control -- Ask Bob! So I took AOW in hopes of improving things. I got five more dives in, but...

Videotaping was a kick! I enjoyed the challenge to my skills. Steve really is a great teacher. Not only is he thorough and patient on land, he has the ability to teach UNDER the water. I got the frog kick because he swam up behind me and "patterned" my fins through it. I've taken Fundies a...

Well, I tried to post something here a long time back, and the internet ate it. I think quite a few people here know me, anyway. My name is Lynne and my husband is Peter. Rachel, glad to hear you're having a great time. Your posts bring back memories of our trip to Australia. We didn't dive Sydney, but a little further north in Byron Bay, but we saw a lot of the same creatures. It's still up there with the best diving I've been fortunate enough to do.

Fascinating! I didn't know about them molting. I remember a night dive at Redondo where there was a vertical surface covered with the barnacles, which were all out and feeding. The effect was that the surface appeared to ripple. It was a very cool sight. Even the common and immobile can be interesti...

It was definitely strange, and the worst part was that the water was heading rapidly downhill. I'd think it was just the tide going out, but the big exchange was during the day.

Current . . . in Cove 2???

Bob and Kirk and I dove tonight at Cove 2. The tide was gratifyingly high, after the long walks to and from the water of my last few dives there. We dropped at the third buoy and began a swim down toward our planned destination of the log piles. But below about 60 feet, where the bottom gets a littl...

I guess they're supposed to be, but this one was on top of one of the concrete plates along the boundary line, in about 35 feet of water. Very strange animal, with a head with no discernible eyes (which is precisely the phrase in the ID book) and it had no particular desire to go anywhere (which is ...
