So, is this considered an invasive species? It's certainly pretty.

Re: Harness Wear Point. Needs protection
All of the above, but it will take a LONG, long time before that degree of wear progresses to anything that threatens the integrity of two inches of webbing.

Re: Cenote Diving in the Yucatan
This was the second time I have ever shot video underwater, and the first time in a cave . . . I'm completely hooked. I had an insane amount of fun setting up the shots and trying to film them, and today, for my birthday, I got a GoPro4. All my dive buddies are going to hate me now, as I try to lear...

That's true, although I've seen some of my best Edmonds nudibranchs in the sand patches.

That's a spectacularly RED tubeworms. I'm not sure I've ever seen one that color.

Fascinating! I love the photo with the urchins trying to escape the star.
I've only seen the orange patches on the pectoral fins of the tubesnouts in late winter mating coloring. Have you seen that other times, Jan?

Re: Solmar V vs. Rocio Del Mar vs. Nautilus Explorer
We did the Socorros on the RDM. I have NOTHING but good things to say about the boat. The cabins are roomy enough (and the ones with single bunks are laid out nicely to maximize floor space). The dive deck works efficiently. The food was fantastic. The crew was absolutely fabulous -- competent, effi...

Back to the original post: Fentanyl is a potent respiratory depressant, but it's dose dependent, so the key is to find the lowest dose that gives you acceptable pain control (not complete relief) with minimal respiratory depression. The drug WILL make you more tolerant of elevated CO2 levels while d...

The Valiant, off O.O. Denny Park, is a fun, albeit brief dive. The plane is located in about 110 feet of water, but it's only about 25 or so feet long.

Yes, you have a picture of the "butt" end -- the other end is the mouth. The transformation of the animal from floating to feeding shape is extremely rapid and very violent, and truly amazing. I spent some time watching them, trying to figure out what was triggering the change, but I could...

It's interesting that he said he was having problems with a cell, and the testing showed two of the three were faulty. I read a very good article a number of years ago, by Andrew Ainslie, talking about voting logic. He was dubious that just going with the majority vote on three cells was safe enough...

Re: Cove 2 - Alki (Seacrest)
The boundary line has shifted somewhat to the left; that was part of the reworking that was done a couple of years ago when the boundary line was replaced. In addition, a cross-cove line at about 45 - 50 feet was put in, that goes from the boundary line to the original can buoy.

I have always thought that it was coralline algae -- at least it's the same color as what you find extensively on rocky surfaces in this area.

A new-to-me observation
Today, we were diving in Hood Canal, and the water was full of jellies. In particular, there were a whole bunch of large ones which appear similar to this, and I assume are a Beroe species: http://davidwrobel.zenfolio.com/p809276518/h398b7cca#h398b7cca What was cool, and totally new to me, was that ...

Re: great day to dive the hood
We dove West Wall and the Pinnacle today. Viz from about 15 feet to 40 or so was fairly poor, but above and below that band, it was actually quite nice. ALL the burrowing sea cucumbers, white and orange, were out of their crevices and actively feeding. West wall had an enormous school of mixed rockf...

Oh, you saw a salt and pepper nudi, too! Thanks for the report; I'll be diving on the Pac Adventures boat on Sunday, and I hope for similar luck on critter sightings.
