Re: Is steel really that big of a dfference for weight?
Short answer - yes, steel tanks can make a huge difference. Check out the table at this link . Pay particular attention to the last two columns relating to buoyancy when full and empty. Now compare the specifics between the aluminum and steel tanks. You can see how an AL80 can be positively buoyant ...

Re: Cressi stuff for OW cert?
Hey Sean, Cressi is a legit maker of dive gear. It could be argued that some of their gear may be more suitable for warm water use. The most important feature of any mask is that it fits YOU. Sometimes you get lucky and find a $40 mask that works great, and sometimes the only one that fits right cos...

I second the Fox Island Bridge pilings. I've seen them every dive there the last two years.

Re: Wide Angle lens?
I've been reading reviews on the Tokina 10-17 and folks with the D3200 are saying the auto focus doesn't work. My housing doesn't have a manual focus option. Looks like that's true. Per B&H Photo on the Tokina 10-17: "Autofocusing with this lens is not supported with Nikon DSLRs without a ...

Sund Rock 6/5: Pretty much the same as last week.

Vis on north wall suffered a bit due to proximity of OW class being held. South wall was much better in comparison.

Re: Repair my suit or get a used one?
+1 on Neoprene neck seal. The zipper that you're having issues with now is the for the exterior skin, not the waterproof inner one, right? Is it possible to have it fixed/replaced by a local tailor? Can you explain/show what the problem is with the zip? There are vid's online that show zipper repair...

Re: Hi! Kids and Scuba
I usually do the Cedar. The flow varies depending on the time of year, but generally, you'll want good water skills. In the fall, you can see the spawning salmon. Turn over the rocks to find crawdads and other things too. One of my favorite places to go was cedar river delta. That used to be the cl...

So what are those things in the 12th photo? Moon snail extreme zoom I had to take off one of my shoes to be able to count to 12 to make sure, but that gray coil-looking thing is a moon snail egg ribbon. Think nudi eggs on steroids. Great pics! Doc, you're really starting to get that rig dialed in.

Re: Salt Creek, Seiku Jetty, and Lake Crescent 5-13-2016
Quite an adventure out to the peninsula on Saturday. Checked off a must-do dive site off "the list", and added a few new critters to my photo journal. Sleep deprivation and the loooooong drive were easily overshadowed by the great diving and even better company. Here's some pics: Salt Cree...

I just noticed Penders has his white beanie on. Too funny. Funniest part was Gdog's reaction. He didn't see me put it on, as he was too busy futzing (PC technical term) around with his camera. He looked up, saw me and almost spat out his reg...then he had to clear his mask before trying to take a p...

Great shot's Scubie! We had a great couple of dives - vis wasn't half bad, no current worth mentioning, and there was plenty of critters to point our cameras at: Some type of scale worm? He was tiny, and I didn't even see his little buddy in the left corner until I downloaded my pics. Not exactly su...

Re: Mike's Beach is awesome!!!
I'd take a second tank for Sund Rock. It's a site worth doing a couple of dives on, and it would be preferable to not have to go for fills during your SI. If you'd prefer not to rent a couple tanks for the whole weekend, you might be able to just rent them for the day at Hoodsport N Dive when you go...
