Photographer's dilemma - equalizing pressure in dry gloves?
I've got a DUI trilam drysuit with the type of drygloves that stretch over the wrist ring to seal (but where there is a wrist seal inside that), and I haven't yet been able to find a good way to wear thin cloth gloves (so I can use controls on a camera) and yet keep the outer gloves from squeezing s...

Re: Lost Camera Found .....
CONGRATS on finding your rig!!! And you got some nice shots to boot! I just joined NWDC a few days ago, and one of the first posts I read was the one about your lost camera (and sucky insurance response). I was mightily impressed that Steve immediately stood up and offered his time, boat and assista...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Jan, I took my son to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium today, and noticed that several of the fish in the big tank there have that popeye thing going. If I hadn't seen your post/picture on it, I would have had No Clue about what I was seeing. More kudos for your education-ating me! I agree! I've...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Sea of Light Mr. Salas did it. He took advance orders until he had enough to pay for the first printing, and less than six months after he began taking them, the book was out. Great idea! And let me throw one more idea out there (and then I'll leave it alone so this wonderful thread doesn't get tot...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Yes -- I keep telling Jan he needs to put a bunch of these educational pictorials together in book form as a guide to Emerald Sea marine life! Amen! :joshsmith: Jan, I realize that there probably isn't a big enough market for a book like that to pay for printing and make much money, if any. But I'l...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Whoa! I just discovered this thread (being brand new to this site), and it's a GOLD MINE! :notworthy: I'll spend many hours pouring over the pages, and I'm sending the link to several friends. Frankly, it should be required reading for anyone serious about PNW diving - a wealth of information, and y...

Re: Hi, I'm Bruce Yates and I'm new here!
Thanks for the welcome everybody! I haven't had my drysuit on in over a year, primarily because I had a kidney transplant 9 months ago (it's doing great, BTW, and my doc encourages me to get back into diving! :supz: ). I did a quick 1-week trip aboard the Cayman Aggressor a month ago, and everything...

Re: Silica / Dessicant Pacs?
I've bought them from B&H, but if I'd known TacomaScubaCenter had 'em, I'd have ordered them from there. I believe in supporting local shops as often as possible. If you're not nearby, I'm sure they'd gladly ship them to you.

Re: Batteries for strobes
I switched totally to Eneloops, both for my strobes and for use around the house. I've had wonderful luck with them, and it's really nice to know that if it's been awhile since charging, they'll still (unlike most NiMH's) have retained most of their charge! I use Inon Z-240 strobes, BTW. I got most ...

Re: Shooting in manual
Some excellent shots, especially for "early manual" shooting! Like others, I love those flounder eyes - that's worth printing and framing! I agree with Bob about using lower strobe settings. It took me a long time shooting manual to learn that, but it can really make a big difference. IMO ...

Re: Hi, I'm Bruce Yates and I'm new here!
Thanks for the welcome. I'm especially glad to see you're a member here, Jan. Your work is actually my primary inspiration for wanting to start taking more photos in Puget Sound. I've long admired your work, and just spent some time on your website - you've just got SO much great PNW stuff there, ma...

Re: Lost Camera
That sucks! I know it doesn't help, but I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was on a liveaboard dive trip and no sooner hit the water on a dive and had my camera handed to me than the o-ring in my tank blew, and as I contorted around to turn off the air, the camera slipped out of my hands (hadn't had tim...

Hi, I'm Bruce Yates and I'm new here!
Hi all! I'm sure there are a few people here I know from Wetpixel.com, DigitalDiver.net, or MBDC, but I wanted to briefly introduce myself anyway! I live and work in Bellevue, and I've been diving for about 15 years, with between 800+ dives under my weight belt thus far. My passion -- and the thing ...
