Re: Breast Implants and Diving

more seriously: from DAN http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/faq/faq.aspx?faqid=108 bottom line... it's ok to dive with breast implants, your pamela anderson should be ok Right - that was the study (and conclusion) cited in the Undercurrent article. I should have posted a link to it with my o...

The Best Underwater Photography Magazine(?)

I just posted this in aother thread, but decided it was worth posting here, too, because lots of you that are uw photographers might not notice it there. BTW, if any of you have good resources for uw photography info, by all means post a reply here! One of the only dive-related magazines I "sub...

Re: Do you read dive magazines?

Getting back to the original question, besides Undercurrent, one of the only other dive-related magazines I "subscribe" to is the online Underwater Photography (http://www.uwpmag.com). It's free  but has tons of reviews of cameras, housings, and strobes, as well as other assorted arti...

Re: Do you read dive magazines?

Now, why isn't there a magazine for us cold water divers? I could read a magazine like this every month. That's hilarious! Nice work, Matt! :notworthy: As for the Sukie/Lisbeth dilemma, I haven't read any of the Sukie books, but haven't missed an episode of True Blood (based on them) , an...

Breast Implants and Diving

So I just got my new e-issue of Undercurrent in this morning's email (one of the few dive mags I still subscribe to). In addition to its usual assortment of excellent dive travel reviews and other articles (one on divers finding affordable life insurance, one on saving whale sharks, and an interesti...

Re: PNW SCUBA BLOG's?

...I know this isn't a blog, but it does seem to serve as the same sort of outlet for many local divers. See Jan's Whidby critters thread for instance... Yep, it actually occurred to me that Jan's Whidby critter thread would be a PERFECT blog, with each new set of pictures a new entry! :joshsmith: ...

Re: Replacement Dive(s) for Edmonds Oil Dock?

If my regular dive buddies can't go (or maybe even if they can!), I may take you up on your offer for a guided tour of Redondo, Bob, and Blaiz's offer for built-in buddies at Keystone, and a group for a dive at MMMukilteo! It's pretty hard to find an excuse NOT to go diving around here when you've g...

Re: Can i get an over under shot with a 6 inch dome port?

Thanks Bruce. I always try and go the cheaper route and always end up regretting it. I will get the 8 inch port (that is the largest offered by ikelite). Can't wait! I really think you'll be happy you did. I've seen some stunning images taken with Ike's 8-inch domes, and it just gives you an edge r...

Re: Must-have iPhone app!

does it show you the currents as a list or table, or only the tides? The table only shows times of highs and lows, not rate of flow (which would require HUGE tables to show very many times, e.g., every hour). It's the graph display where you can choose (by placing/dragging your finger) times of day...

Must-have iPhone app!

One of the coolest (and most useful) apps for divers is TideGraph, which shows tides for any station graphically and in table format. The graph is cool because not only does it show you a graph of the tides and state the time of highs and lows, but as you drag your finger across the graph, it gives ...

Right-click picture resizer for XP Right-click picture resizer for Windows 7 (3rd party clone) Use one of the above depending on your OS. It's a great utility because it's always there. Just right-click on an image and pick a size. Preserve or overwrite the original at your discretion. -Ben VERY CO...

Re: Can i get an over under shot with a 6 inch dome port?

I recently purchased an ikelite housing and am now shooting with my 60mm. I would like to start shooting with my 10.5mm fisheye, but i dont have a dome port for it yet. I know the standard for that lens theses days is the 8 inch dome port ($500). Where a 6 inch port is $200. i found some pics onlin...

Re: So i was trying to post a picture

I'm not sure if WPG lets you downsize images. For Internet sharing, all you really need is a file that is about 800 pixels wide and 72ppi, which would only be about 1/20th the size of your full resolution file. Not that it helps in this instance, but I'd suggest getting Photoshop Elements. Not too e...

Re: Replacement Dive(s) for Edmonds Oil Dock?

Sorry to reopen those EOD wounds. It really is a shame when so-called progress wipes out whole communities of undersea creatures just because it isn't visible to the decision makers and has a far weaker voice than the deep pocketed special interests, in this case the condo owners uphill. I'v...

Replacement Dive(s) for Edmonds Oil Dock?

Before I stopped diving last year (to have a kidney transplant), one of my favorite sites around Seattle was the Edmonds Oil Dock. You could always count on lots of life, and swimming among the pilings was an ethereal, magical experience. Now that I'm starting to dive around here again, I'm looking ...

Derek, Nice job, especially for first time with the strobes! I, too, really like the jelly in the first one. :supz: As for what you could have done differently on the last one, that's a tough shot (as is all wide angle in murky water). The best I can suggest would be to move the strobe(s) farther aw...

Re: Strobe Light Problem

Try shooting some macro without a strobe. I've been shooting macro for 5 years without a strobe and my shots have turned out fine. I recently purchased my first strobe and the difference shooting macro is negligible. It might be worth shooting some without a strobe, but as a general rule, unless yo...
