Re: Hearing on protecting Cove 2 from GPO harvesting happeni

I just spoke with an editor at the Seattle Times and repeatedly applauded Dylan's efforts today -- I also strongly suggested that we as a society let him and his family move on from this event and achieve some privacy. I believe she will be issuing a statement in the coming days. Just in case he hap...

I also quickly wanted to add that we now have a dedicated subforum to discuss these efforts -- I have invited the participants in this thread to join and discuss these efforts, and if anyone else is interested in helping, just PM me :)

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection

Hey everyone, I just wanted to provide a quick update on our efforts regarding this matter. As it stands right now, our mission is to... 1. Petition the WDFW to establish a ban on GPO harvest in the vicinity of Alki Cove 2 in the short term. This will be discussed at the WDFW meeting next Thursday (...

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection

Before anyone gets too deep into these efforts, I want to make it clear that there is a VERY big coordinated effort going on internally right now to make this happen. Lots of people are working hard to present a clear and concise plan, and I'm confident we can get results very soon. We should be abl...

Re: First shots on the new camera body

Around here, I have found myself shooting the 10-17mm with the TC far more than without it. It's not that full on 10mm 180deg fisheye shots wouldn't look great around here at some spots, its that our viz is rarely good enough to pull it off. On the other hand, a 10mm with the TC seems to be much mor...

Special thanks to Josh!!!

I want to give a very special thanks to our very own Joshua Smith for a recent project he completed for us. I wanted to redo our fireplace for my wife's birthday, and while I typically do most home projects myself, this one was a bit more involved and I wanted it to look absolutely perfect if I hire...

Re: Lens help

Honestly... you'll probably want to buy a dedicated macro port. They're not that expensive, and they will provide better optical quality. It is also very dangerous to use a macro lens on a dome port because it's very easy to get too close to a subject and scratch your expensive glass :) Each of the ...

Re: Lens help

The Nikkor 60mm macro is the easiest and most versatile lens. The Nikkor 105mm macro is also great, but harder to use and more expensive. Both will give you theoretically 1:1 magnification (objects will be the same size on the sensor as they are in real life). These are far and away the most popular...

Re: Dove my ass off!

Thanks everyone -- The fact that everyone likes different images is very cool to me :) Lynne -- believe it or not, that was a melon-sized GPO, and I was within a few inches of him when I took that photo. The wide angle lens really plays tricks on perspective. Spatty -- after some research I believe ...

Dove my ass off!

As some of you know, my diving regimen is in for a minor adjustment  soon with the imminent arrival of our first child. With that in mind, my wife gave me the okay to "dive my ass off" now so that I wouldn't be underwater when she went into labor in a few weeks. I took her suggestio...

Re: We lost another Dive site

It is about 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile from the entry at PP fingers to the south end of the dive site -- at this point the wall doesn't begin until below 100ft. You could swim it, but you'd run out of bottom time or gas most likely :) As long as you stay in the fingers themselves, current isn't too much o...

Re: Nikon D70s whole deal..

What are you going to Chris? (unsolicited endorsement mode engaged) Chris has captured some really beautiful shots with this camera -- it's a ton of rig for the money. I also used to shoot the D70s and loved it -- here is an example shot of the kind of results you can expect from this camera: http:/...

Re: The return of SCUBA trivia!!!

Yep! The Corsair that can be see at the Museum of Flight was recovered from Lake Washington in the 80s. It was originally put there by a midair collision with another Corsair in 1950, and the remains of the second corsair can now be dived near Madison Beach.

You're up Richard!
