Re: Atomic Cobalt computer issues
I've had several dive computers over the years and have to say my Shearwater Petrel is the best I've ever owned. I've never had an issue with it and love the fact that the battery is a field replaceable single AA. As for their service, as I mentioned I've had no problems with the computer so no serv...

Re: Is old air really an issue?
The air in your tanks should be fine. I did a 180 ft dive this year on gas that was 8 years old (it was 18/45 and there was now way I was going to let $100 worth of gas go to waste).

I''ve had the same costco bag as Gdog for the past 8 years - about 25 dive trips. It looks a bit beat up but the zippers, wheels, handle and material are in good shape and I have no plans on replacing it anytime soon.

As a cephalogoddess you may be a bit disappointed in Hawaii diving. Hawaii in general is great for big stuff - turtles, sharks, rays, dolphins and schools of fish - it's not so great for the macro life.

Where are you staying? We travel to the BI 2X a year and I've dove most of the sites. Your location and the waves are the determining factor on where you can dive. My personal favorite is Two Step south of Captain Cook and next to Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park. I've seen everything H...

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?
Puerto Rico is a US territory, relatively inexpensive and is a couple of hour plane flight to the mainland if the need arises. I've heard mixed reviews on the diving but at least the water is warm ;-) The Big Island of Hawaii is more reasonable than you'd expect. Once you get outside of Kona a house...

That's Dalco Wall

It's a great divesite but the currents can be wicked. You need to be very careful when in planning your dive.

Re: Scooter out to Diamond Knot?
It's possible to scooter - not advised but possible. Ben McGeever did it with some others many years ago and I've looked into doing it. There are many complications: - The current can be wicked on The Knot even in the best of times. You'd need to plan it during the a spectacular neap tide (look at t...

IMHO Keep it simple and cheap. A brass SPG and a wrist nitrox computer is all you need and can be had for under $350. On the computer make sure that the numbers are large enough to be seen in our murky waters and have a user replaceable battery. If you have some cash burning in your pocket get a wri...

Re: looking for a NiMH battery charger for Dive-X Sierra
I had Battery Space rebuild my Cuda pack and they were much cheaper than Rabbit. I paid $410 with return shipping as compared to $650. I have about 25 dives on the pack and it's had zero problems. http://www.batteryspace.com/ Contact Raymond at sales@batteryspace.com and tell him what you have. Mine...

Re: Dive Xtra Sierra scooters for sale
I dive a Cuda and my regular dive buddy dives a Sierra. The difference between speeds for us is usually +/- one gear. The Sierra is actually a really nice workhorse of a scooter. It's light, has 60+ minutes of burn time in 3rd gear and can be easily upgraded with a Lithium-ion battery. It's also a n...

Re: Drysuit: Extra layer of clothes, how much extra lead?
Greetings, A survey: In the Winter, do you wear an extra layer of clothes under your undergarment? A heavy hood? If so, what do you wear and how much lead (if any) do you add? Details: Yesterday, we had to end a beautiful Edmonds dive early because we were too buoyant. We think we needed more lead ...

Re: Computer Advice - To Lynx or not to Lynx, that is the question
There are definitely better computers out there for the money. I owned and dove a Liquivision Xen (the bottom timer version of the Lynx) for 2 years and IMHO the computer was junk. The root of the problem has to do with the proprietary battery and power management. In the beginning I was burning thr...

I think the OP is talking about the LP 80's, not the stubby HPs. They are close in size to the 100's.

Re: Cold Water Regulator Suggestions?
Both of the regs you mentioned are great choices. I actually dive MK25's for my doubles and the AL Legend as my single tank set-up. IMHO the Legend breathes slightly better but the difference is minor. If you have any tech diving aspirations the MK25's are your best bet because of the swivel turret....

Re: Twins.. HP or LP
Both?
If you're new to doubles and not tech diving I'd suggest the 80's. Keeping within your NDL's you'll have more gas than you'd ever need. Keep the 100's apart so you have a bit of extra gas for single tank dives.

Re: Repair my suit or get a used one?
I'd say pick up a new skin, put on a new neck seal then start saving your money for a better quality suit. You can always keep the Whites for a back-up and if your doing 130 + dives a year you're going to want a back-up drysiut.

Re: Tech gear question
Not just 'any' HP100's, the old style 7/8 neck are a bitch to trim out because of their design/buoyancy characteristics - they start super head heavy when you put all that brass on top (manifold & regs) so need to trim them you end up running them low on back in addition to a monster tail weigh...
