Re: Dive light
I own three of the DRIS 1000 lumen lights and they cant be beat for the $60 price tag. A set of C batteries will last at least 3 hours, It has a tight beam and enough power to cut through our murky Puget Sound waters, and it's built like a tank. It also makes for a great back-up light once you decid...

West Marine usually has a pretty decent selection of NOAA charts.
You can also order physical copies on NOAAs website or download the PDF and print them at home.

Re: 25 dollars for what????
We tried pulling the usual permit for a drift dive Sunday night and the ranger told us the fee to dive had been raised to 25. It's not posted because night diving, or being in that parking lot, isn't allowed at night unless by permit. Fuck the park service. I'm having conversations with Jack the ma...

Re: Hyperbaric trip experience/getting bent call for insight
For an air dive the profile look slightly aggressive but not outrageous. I would have done my ascent a bit different but have done this exact same profile hundreds of times without issue. Every time we breathe compressed gas underwater we run the risk of getting bent, it's just part of the sport. We...

Re: Just bought a drysuit at the UWS Divers Fair.
I really am disliking the boots on this suit. They are big and floppy and pretty soft and flexible, making shore entry over sharp rocks a pain (literally), also don't like the ballooning effect and having my fins feel loose on my feet. I can see why many people like the sock style suit and then a l...

Re: entry level limnologist job in Seattle
I thought I was qualified until I read this: "Ability to operate a variety of small boats, including both human-powered and small engine-powered, as well as maneuver a vehicle with a boat trailer at a launching site." :-) Well, that and the degree in limnology, which I had to Google to fig...

"How much have you spent so far?" In nine years I've spent roughly $25k not including my boat, travel or charters. Easily 3X that if you include everything. So here's a few tips on saving money in the long run.... Buy nice or buy twice isn't just a BS slogan, don't skimp out and try to bu...

Re: Scooters. What do you have? Your likes and dislikes?
Various musings.... - If you enjoy diving for the exploration, underwater topography and zipping around and having fun a scooter will be the best thing you can own to enhance your diving (other than a boat). If you're a macro photographer and could spend your entire dive in a 10 X 10 box shooting cr...

I've got an Aqua Lung Zuma size Med that I'd be willing to sell for $200. I used it on probably 3 trips so it's in great condition.

The difficult thing to find is the glue. You can use Aquaseal but you'll have a mess on your hands the next time you want to replace the seals.

Have you tried Don at Octopus Gardens (Port Townsend) or Anacortes Diving Supply?
If it's a hole and not a tear you may be able to patch it with a bicycle tire repair kit. I've also used electrical tape as a quick fix.

Re: Wing weight placement: What do you do?
For my singles set-up I have my plate and STA at 6.5 lbs, a soft shot spine weight at 3.5 lbs and a 16-22 lb brick lead weight belt (I adjust the weight on the belt depending on what undergarment I'm wearing and the tank I'm diving). Some folks like to add a cam band pocket to shift weight higher on...

Re: Cleaning Boat Hull
If your boat is an inboard/outboard then for sure paint the stern drive. If its an outboard and you can lift the motor out of the water then you'll be ok without it. So after thinking this over I'm going with two coats of the non-ablative hull paint. They said it should last 2-3 seasons. I don't kee...

Re: Cleaning Boat Hull
Wow, this is very helpful information! Do you happen to know of a good place on the sound (moored in Seattle) to have this work done? I was quoted $75-125/foot (boat length) by a place up in Edmonds. They did mention sanding so I'm hoping it was for the second method you wrote about, though they sa...

Re: Cleaning Boat Hull
Another option...
I've never done it but some people I know will bring their boat into to Lake Washington every 3-4 weeks and leave it for a couple of days. From what I've been told the fresh water will kill the growth and then you can scrub the hull with a deck brush and it will be as good as new.

Re: Cleaning Boat Hull
Don't leave your boat in the water too long without bottom paint!! It is a huge PIA to clean once the barnacles take hold and you'll be scrubbing dime sized calcified circles off your hull for hours (take it from me - not fun!). They can actually ruin your gel coat. Bottom painting a boat is no smal...
