Re: Orca Pod in Hood Canal at Octopus Hole (5/8)
Gdog and I were at Day Island a week ago. One of the residents said an Orca pod had swum by within the last week, through the Tacoma narrows. He made it sound like seeing them in the area was a pretty rare occurrence.

I don't see anything confirming that OF's "Hog" is actually inanimate.
Apologies if I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Hi Oldfart, Interesting how your introduction completely omitted any reference to diving, and whether it's an activity or interest of your past, present or future. Here's a shocker: this forum centers on diving. With just a little effort, I'm pretty sure you can easily locate a better audience to di...

Fox Island Bridge 4/17
Met up with EJ for a dive at Fox Island Bridge last Sunday. It was a beautiful day, and the small parking area was full of kayakers and jet ski trailers. After a little delay finding a spot to park, we geared up and surface swam to the fourth bridge support from the island before dropping in. Vis ar...

Re: Failed braided LP hose?
Yep. Took a quick look around and found several similar stories. Think my hoses were manufactured/packaged by Phantom, and I picked them up from Piranha. The have a date code of 11Q3 (3rd quarter of 2011?) They must have sat awhile before they headed my way. Your right, the braid looks new.The entir...

Failed braided LP hose?
I bought a couple non-miflex branded braided LP reg hoses a couple years ago to try out. I can't recall who the manufacturer was, it was mostly being identified as "double braided". I just located a steady stream of bubbles emanating from the middle of my primary hose - nowhere near the cr...

Looks like an Anderson Connector. A quick search will find numerous sources online, such as http://www.batteryspace.com/connectoradaptorstandardandersonconnector5long14awg30arate.aspx Perhaps the one you have can be repaired? First, glad you're going to be okay. Second, sad to hear that this chapter of your life has come to an end, Third, really glad that you found out about your medical issue while above the waterline, and that you'll have lots of time to write more "chapters". Even though it may not have been...

My initial guesses** put the first one as a small/young Barnacle Eating Dorid, Onchidoris bilamellata, and the second one as a Shaggy Mouse, Aeolidia papillosa.
** meaning I'm too lazy to do much research, and these are the critters I'm familiar with

Re: Alki Junk Yard
Also, If your camera allows, turn off all preflashes. I don't find them to be of any use underwater, and they drain the camera battery quicker. Better to have/use a focus light and get your strobes timing dialed in.
Nice black and white shot!

Re: Alki Junk Yard
The ISS 2000 have 4 different preflash settings. If you have the wrong one set you don't get light when you need it. Any setting On the strobe , all pics are dark ... I think what's happening is this camera autofocus is so fast and it adjusts everything in 100 of a millisecond that when the strobes...

There is a specific spot at Salt Creek, a depression in the reef that you traverse on your way in/out through the kelp forest. It is memorable and unmistakable due to the fact that it's bottom is carpeted with purple urchins. It's comforting to find as we are navigating our way back to the exit poin...

Congrats on the camera, Echo! FI Bridge is great place to start dialing it in. I have to check with Penders, but I think we got out 1.5 to 2 hours before slack. Mikey, whatcha think? I've only tried the bridge during the slack before ebb, and splashing 2 hours prior to the predicted slack (north nar...
