Happy Birthday Capt. Cousteau

Post by sitkadiver »

I tried to revive an old thread for the Captain, but couldn't find one! Is that even possible? A search for Cousteau on NWdiveclub turns up empty?

Well, today would have been his 104th birthday.

Tonight, I will raise a glass to toast the man who created my sport, the tools of my vocation, brought a new level of awareness to the sea and the environment and also inspired countless people to simply go out and explore.

To the Captain:

The passage at the end of this video is from Lagoon of Lost Ships, a Truck Lagoon voyage from 1969 I believe....

And Jean-Michele's son, Fabien, is spending a month on Aquarius Reef Base. I think the original endurance record was set by Astronaut Scott Carpenter on SEALAB II:

PS - If your interested in Cousteau, the Flashback Scuba Museum in Tacoma has a large collection of his diving equipment.

I think it is safe to say that majority of older divers have found Silent World and subsequent stories and movies the
primer for our interest in SCUBA diving.
Cheers to Jacques and the Calypso ! :partyman:

I take photos because I like it, not because I'm good at it. :) by Unknown
