To "P" or not to "P" Really, it's no Que

Post by Pez7378 »

Since someone started putting Nitrox in my Cylinders, I've been staying underwater for much longer than I ever imagined. Now I really suffer from the OMG I GOTTA PEE! At the end of nearly every dive. I'm gonna have a P Valve installed. NO Question. The Questions I do have are:

1. Which brand? Halcyon?
2. Balanced right?
3. Where do I get the XXS condom catheters?
4. Factory installed at DUI or do it myself?
5. What are the pros and cons?
6. When do you "hook" it up? At home? At the dive site?
7. What are the hazards? UTI? Flooding?
8. How cool is it to Pee whenever you need to?

I read this http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... =243099718 and although funny, I wanna hear from the local experts.

OK so my wife and I own an Adult Family Home and I have actually used for other purposes other than diving a condom catheter. They mostly come is sizes like millimeters. Yes I said that and they guy who uses them here uses size 36mm. Also I dont know about anyone else but they also sell a BARD brand protective barrier wipe to protect your skin. It is kinda weird peeing into a bag on your leg but nice cause you dont have to always stop to use the restroom. just when the bag is full and you have to dump.Downside is pulling it off OH!!!! and I know how this is gonna sound but it is the truth it is much better to put on if you STANDING UP if you know what I mean. \:D/ The leg bags come in different Ounce sizes up to I think 32ounces. You also have to make sure you get the tubing and I am not sure if anyone else wear the leg straps or just stuffs it down the wet/dry suit. They also sell small wipes that help to remove them IF you fear pulling off some skin :pale:

1. Salvo
2. Definitely
3. Rochester Wide-Bands ... use Google to find the best source
4. NWSD ... they'll sell you the valve and install it too
5. Pros ... you don't have to end your dive until you want to.
Cons ... there are places that adhesives were never meant to go ... :pale:
6. Depends on the dive site ... you'll want some privacy to "connect the plumbing"
7. UTI ... can be avoided with proper cleaning
Flooding ... minimal risk with the wide-bands, if you connect properly
8. Very cool ... with a little practice

BTW - the millimeters measurement is width ... not length ... #-o

Was my mom the only one who told me about peeing in the pool and how there is a special chemical that makes the water around the pee turn dark purple so everyone knows you were the one who peed?

To aviod the teasing of xxs condom catheters. When buying them, buy a couple XXL to give to give away. Remember there is no truth in advertizing :smt032

I believe this is the scariest post yet in NWDC! I loved that guy...beep...beep! Does is seem frigtening to see a man with NO BODY HAIR? Some OCD man must have invented the 'body shaver'... or a serial killer... think about it!
And I hate men, our only option is a fricken diper! This is why my dives are so short.. oh how I long for my nieve days of diving wet!

I didn’t read all of the attached links, but if they didn’t already cover it, I’d highly recommend adding a quick connect/disconnect inline. They have an auto shut off on them that shuts of the flow when disconnected. I.e. you can “plumb up” before leaving home, and then connect in seconds as you are reaching down to grab your drysuit suspenders. Saves you from the fumbling and pain in the arse of having to install the cath in public environments. Especially if you want to install while “standing up”. [-X

It also enables you to disconnect between dives if you want to remove your drysuit. Just leave the hose inside your undergarment. Make sure you purchase several intermediate fittings to install and “open” the hose for in between dive use when not wearing the drysuit. I think details, part numbers, and ordering info are available on Scuba Board http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/exposu ... stion.html , and rebreather world, and probably deco stop too.

Research a bit though. There are different sizes, and if you do some modifying, and go with a bigger diameter, you’ll get better results.
As far as installing, I installed mine myself, and it was no problem. A little scary deciding on the exact location and then the initial commitment when I put the hole in the suit though. No regrets.

Just pay particular attention to make sure you have no kinks in the line once the suit “squeezes”. Not only uncomfortable, but high risk for “blowout” when using. Because of that risk, I’d 2nd the recommendations for the wide bands. They have more glue. :pale: Buy in bulk (online) and you can get them pretty cheap.

Good luck.
