What wing to use ??

Post by Dave »

Hey guys what are your thoughts on what wing to use on a Diverite backplate system when I dive a single tank??? I have a classic wing for doubles but am under the impression I should only use it for doubles?

Thanks

I have had good luck with single tank wings from Deep Sea Supply (their LCD 30/40 wings), Dive-Rite (Rec, Trek and Venture wings), as well as Oxycheq. All of them have worked well for me.

I'd like to urge you to check out the wings made and sold by a new company, Golem Gear.

Here's a link to their 35 lb wing:

I am using one of these now and they ROCK for use with a single tank. I also use it when diving my Rebreather.

Quite frankly, I have never seen a wing built so strongly or as well made.

The classice is for doubles only. I have a rec wing you can try out. Let me know if you would like to. Here is the link to the Dive Rite Wing Specs.

John where is this company out of and how long have they ben around
just wondering . I realy like the look of this wing.

this is the problem I am haveing, I just bought a Dive Rite Trans pack and now whith so many wings out there it is hard to know which would work out best for me.

I am not worried to much about the cost as I have noticed they are all priced about the same and seem to be well made.

like Wally was saying the Dive Rite is a good Wing too and is not to be dismised out right
but there is so many good products out there its hard to know which is the right one

Hi, Sparky!

Golem Gear is a fairly new line of equipment that is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, out of a business called Tampa Adventure Sports. Just so that you all know, it is owned and operated by my good friend, Jakub Rahecek. Tampa Adventure Sports is an ADM sponsored facility and Jakub is a fellow staffer at ADM. So.....I DO in fact "have a dog in this hunt", but I believe completely in the quality of the Golem Gear line and in Jakub's diligence and honesty.

The Golem Gear line of products is based on the needs of active cave divers, but since those needs definitely overlap into both technical and recreational diving that doesn't matter a whit! I first saw one of the 35 pound wings when Curt Bowen, the publisher of ADM, came up here to the PNW in December to dive and he had one of them on his Rebreather. The wing was built like a TANK! (and not just like a tank - a TIGER tank!). You would be hard pressed to force a knife into it! The toughness and the overall quality of it impressed me thoroughly - I called Jakub and bought one a couple of weeks later.

Wally is correct - the Dive-Rite line should NEVER be ignored. I have many of their products myself and also believe in their quality. I dive their Super - One wing when I dive with doubles. I have used it for years and have NEVER had one whisper of a problem with it. Lamar Hires, the owner of Dive-Rite, is legendary in the technical and cave diving community and stands behind his products 100%. On the rare occasions over the years in which I have had to send a Dive-Rite product back for service or repair I have been enormously pleased with their quick and professional response.

I believe that you would be pleased with a purchase from either of these companies....or, for that matter, a wing from either Oxycheq or Deep Sea Supply!

It's WONDERFUL that we have several fine companies coming out with great products right now.....but it DOES make it difficult to choose! HA!

Best regards!

Thanks guys !!! I am leaning towards the rec wing so that I can do both a single or my doubles, my only concern is if it does both well. I guess I'll find out!!!

I have nothing but good to say about the Swedish made Agir Brokk wings, either single or dual tank. They maybe a bit hard to come by in the us, well at least Salvo sells them down in FL.
