Tech Snorkel

Is anybody ready to upgrade to a redundant snorkle?

Perhaps somebody at DSAT has too much time on their hands.

Um..sharing air with your buddy might be a little awkward.

The offended PADI instructors commenting on the picture are pretty funny, too!

Padi DSAT tech snorkel emergency procedures:

Image

1 ) Fixable right snorkel failure- signal your buddy, switch to your left snorkel and fix the problem. You may choose to remain on your left snorkel, or switch back to your right snorkel and continue the dive.

2) Unfixable right snorkel failure- signal your buddy, isolate and switch over to the left snorkel. Be sure to purge the left snorkel before taking a breath. End the dive.

When isolating, always be cautious to not rip the manifold from the right and left snorkel. If this happens you will certainly wished you had taken a course through Naui as they don't use snorkels when tech diving.

Since the isolation valve is higher then the right and left tubes, you may also choose to stand or kneel (depending on depth) while conducting these emergency procedures to get the head out of the water and avoid drowning.

Those look a little long. I'd worry about the PPo2 levels possible with those things. I'd rather see them in delrin rather than cheap plastic as well. Otherwise, it looks pretty good. I'll have to stop by 5th D and give them a look.
