Red Brotula at Cove 2

Post by fnerg »

I got a picture of the red brotula at Cove 2, in the pilings along the boundary line at 100 feet or so. It's a terrible picture, but it's the first red brotula I've seen, so there!

Good job on the Brotula, they are indeed hard to take picture of, believe me, I tried without much success...

VERY cool!!

They usually hang out at the deep end of the log piles, inside the log. They are there fairly consistently.

never seen one out in the open between the logs like this though, very nice find AND the fact you got pictures :supz: !!

That one's been there for a long time. It's also common to find one down at the deep end of the other set of dolphins that run perpendicullar to the boundary rope ... it's very uncommon for either of them to make themselves visible enough for a picture, however. Nice shot ...

dphershman's red brotula shot is the ne plus ultra of this particular critter, so in comparison to that, my shot's not that great.

Truthfully though, I'm just happy to have the shot, and to be able show that I know what one looks like! I mean, half the fun of REEF surveys is the scavenger hunt aspect!

What as lucky dive! Good job! It must be Red Brotula time. I have seen one last weekend too not so deep though. Mine was at 60ft tucked inside a hole. The only part of the animal that I could see was its head.
