Snail help

Post by oldsalt »

Yesterday I saw a free swimming snail about 2 cm long. More brownish that transparent (It could have been the light.). The "wings" seem large in relation to the rest of the animal. I gave away my reference books. I remember them as pteropods, which wickipedia tells me is an obsolete term. The only picture I got was completely useless. Anybody guess as to what it most likely was?

Jan, I think you nailed it. I found some other pictures online of them swimming and it looked exactly like what I saw. As with virtually everything we see underwater, there seems to be a wide variation in coloring. Thank you for your help on this.
