Winged Sea Slugs

Post by dphershman »

We went to Three Tree this morning but the small parking lot was filled to overflowing, so Plan B (Redondo) was carried out. There's been a dearth of Nudibranchs at Redondo lately, but we were pleasantly surprised to encounter a number of Winged Sea Slugs Gastropteron pacificum. It seems that late winter is the when they're most numerous, but it still was a nice treat to observe them in significant numbers.

I've tried to get a sharp photo of these guys for years, but so far these photos from today are my best examples.

That 2nd and third shot are great! I like #2 for the clear focus on the color pattern and the timing on #3 was perfect it looks like a vase with an exotic plant inside. Your right they are a pita to get a good shot of.

Thanks! I was surprised at the level of color. When I see them they usually don't have strong colors.
