Microscopic Marine Life in Puget Sound

Post by Jeremy »

Does anyone have a resourse(s) they would recommend for a guide to microscopic marine life in our fair waters?

I'm having a tough time finding anything.

Thanks in advance!

Dirt simple 1 page version
http://estuaries.noaa.gov/Teachers/pdf/ ... on_Key.pdf

East coast but good example pictures (NY)
http://life.bio.sunysb.edu/marinebio/larvae.html

More good pictures and many species (or varients) are local as well (So Cal)
http://www.usc.edu/org/cosee-west/ocean ... nkton1.pdf

Out of print (and rediculously expensive) but pretty comprehensive, local. Not good pictorally.

Out of print academic textbooks will kill you. Its also 450+ pages. Our phyto person has one at the lab, not sure where it came from. I was surprised to find it available scanned online at all.

I doubt there are any local "guidebooks" per se, but willing to be proven wrong.

Depending on the depth of knowledge you want, PMR does some video microscope work on their marine science afloat field trip...

There is one in the works, but I can't give you an ETA yet.
