Sculpin ID Help

Post by Magoi »

We did a nice dive at Pt Hudson yesterday afternoon and I got a couple shots of sculpins I cannot clearly ID from my books. Are these both scaly head sculpins?

The top one is a scalyhead -- you can tell by the orange gills, and the perfect round white spots down the underside. The second one I'm not sure of, but I'd guess a smoothhead. I'll be interested to see what the experts say on that one!

Yep, scalyhead and smoothhead.

The way you guys have been identifying all the sculpins and crabs, I'm soon going to be out of a job. :)

Look at it this way, Greg -- the educational materials you so painstakingly put together are paying off!
