Longspine Combfish at cove 2/1?

Post by fnerg »

I saw something (well two things) that looked like a longspine combfish somewhere between the I Beams and the Monolith tonight. It was at about 85-ish feet, the markings looked a lot like this photo:

But it's dorsal fin was down, so I couldn't tell for sure. I saw some florescent yellow/green markings on the dorsal fin, so I don't know if that helps any.

I did see two of them, do if anyone is scootering between the I-Beams and the Monolith tomorrow, you might see what I saw, and you might actually have a camera!

There's also a big cabezon on eggs on a brickpile around 60fsw in the same area. (No man's land between cove 2/1)

Well crap! I just googled "longspine combfish cove 2", and saw this post by Tangfish:

It's got the florescent yellow markings on the dorsal fin that I saw!

In pretty sure that's what I saw tonight!

On a side note, if anyone has a scooter, I'd be up for an attempt to get a picture on Thursday or Friday evening!

I saw two at mukilteo last week on the way back up from the man. Somewhere between 75 and 90 feet.
