Need some ID help...

Post by Scubie Doo »

Here are two critters I have never seen/noticed. The first was on the kelp at TTN. This nudibranch was tiny, like a grain of rice. This was the best picture I could get with a 100mm lens and +10 diopter.

I think the second is a Pacific Ocean Cod. I had my macro lens, so I could not get a great (full body) shot. It was laying in the sand at about 40' opening and closing it's mouth. I have never seen one of these in the PS.

Thanks in advance for the ID help.

Don't have my id books with me at work but the fish is definitely a Cod. Pacific or Tom. Would need my books to know the difference. They appear from time to time. Have seen them at Redondo and Three Tree several times.

Pacific cod- longer barbel on chin than a tomcod. Plus it's way to big for a tommy.

Thinking maybe Olea hansineensis for the slug. I'm not a slug guy so take it with a grain of salt. (no salt on the slug, please)
