Janolus fuscus season has arrived

Post by dphershman »

There were White and Orange-tipped Nudibranchs Janolus fuscus everywhere at Titlow on Monday. These may possibly be the most photogenic slug in Puget Sound.

Nice shots!
They've been at alki junkyard for a month or so. I saw one at Redondo too a couple weeks ago. Didn't see any last year.
One of my faves for sure. So tough to get a good shot of. Great job!

Hi Dan,
J. fuscus is parasitized by the copepod Ismaila belciki - apparently the copepod lives inside the slug but its eggs (if present) are outside.

Could this be the reason for the hump that you show?
Parasitically yours,
Alex
