the resurrection of an old thread ... HA HA HA i love it , i saw this today and i was like ... What ? were going .. so soon .. To answer Kneedeep , I feel after going up there 3x now , that the best time is in march.. Jan is super cold with water temp in the high 38 deg zone.. and the weather didnt co-operate last year with winds and swells.. But that doesnt mean you cant dive the inner protected sites there in sitka.. I saw way more life going on there when we went in March vrs Jan.. you would really want to go in the summer , but my sched doesnt allow it .. i have to travel in the winter..

Winter time is the best time for good viz. Similar to what you get in Washington. Right now the water is pretty clear, I'd say around 40 - 50 ft. of viz in most places. Of course, we also have less light, so you have to take that into consideration.

I would concur that February and March are the best dive months for Sitka. March would likely be best, but I wouldn't procrstinate too much becuase if you come up too close to Herring spawning, then you'll have almost no viz at all. Most years, the spawn occurs around the last week of March, but sometimes a little later, sometimes a little earlier.

Keep us posted on any travel times. I look forward to seeing everyone again.

I've done two July trips and those are the BEST. The only issue I had was last year and getting home with the flight voucher I was using. When the planes are full, you are stuck! Lots of fishing charters in the summer. I saw so many people walking around with poles.
