Redondo 1/23 - Calling Mr. Bailey...

Post by Scubie Doo »

Hit Redondo last night for a late night dive. Last week at Sund Rock Mr. Bailey was telling us about a lumpie with a growth on the top. Could this be the same Lumpie?

Image

Also found a couple other cute Lumpies

And a few cool little critters.

I think this is a small buffalo sculpin, but not 100% sure.

An awesome worm...

And tons of Snail fish...

Have a great week everyone, safe diving out there :-)

That definitely looks like the same lumpie ... same color and the growth is in the same place.

I think I got a picture of that little sculpin too ... and it was ID'd as a juvi buffalo sculpin ...

It's not uncommon, Jess ... they don't move around very much. I discovered a few years ago back when I spent more time diving the eel grass beds on the north side that I could see the same lumpie dive after dive in roughly the same place if I paid attention to where it was that I saw them.

It's harder to do that on the south side because there are few landmarks, and for the most part it's hard to tell where you are when you see them.

I dived the north side on Sunday evening and found 3 lumpies in 8 feet of water. They were shallower than the eel grass on the rocks.

I dived it in mid-November. Didn't find as much cool stuff over there as usual, so went back to the south side. After the storm, I figured it wouldn't be worth diving. Unlike the south side, without the eel grass there just isn't much over there in the shallows to attract the critters ...
