Tripod testing at Redondo
Since it's getting dark earlier my buddy and I took a first night dive of the Fall at Redondo last night. I was using the dive to practice using a tripod with the video camera. While it's a pain to carry and awkward to work with, the results doing macro work are dramatically improved. Managed to capture the regular cast of characters pretty close up.

Wow -- I love the fringe in the skate's eye! What a treat, to let the camera show us the things we really don't and can't see when we're there. Thank you for putting this up!

Thanks for sharing with the group! Amazing difference having a stable platform - what size is your tripod - your video makes my macro videos look like I took them while intoxicated!!

Thanks all.
Keith, yeah, I know what you mean. I got tired of making myself dizzy looking at my own macro video. So, I went large and bought this trip. I considered building one, but once the parts were all assembled the price was pretty high too.

Redondo is very helpful with the sandy bottom for setting up the tripod. Unlevel rock is hard to deal with as well as anything with life on it. So, sand is nice for learning on.
Dtodd, I'm using a Sony CX550 in a Bluefin 550 housing with 2 sola 2000 lights. I also used the flip diopter for the close ups. I bought everything used and it's all about 3 years old. Still learning on it.
I also carried a light grey card for setting the white balance which really helps the colors (till they get compressed online). The sola lights are on the cool side.
